Sweeney Todd Premiere—London

January 10, 2008

On January 10, 2008, Johnny Depp attended the London premiere of SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET at the Odeon Cinema at Leicester Square. Johnny wore a black heathered suit flecked with ivory and a black shirt open at the neck--no coat or hat, despite the cold, rainy evening--although he later donned a brown fedora for the afterparty. Joining Johnny at the premiere were his director, Tim Burton, and co-stars Helena Bonham Carter (looking radiant in a red strapless gown, less than a month after giving birth to daughter Nell), Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Jamie Campbell Bower, Laura Michelle Kelly (in black-and-white), Jayne Wisener (in an ice-blue sequined minidress), and Ed Sanders. Johnny's publicist Robin Baum and security chief Jerry Judge were at his side as he greeted well-wishers.

A large, enthusiastic crowd stood waiting in the rain at Leicester Square for hours for Johnny and the other stars to arrive; many Zoners were in attendance and met Johnny, and a couple even got Johnny's autograph . . . on their arms! They immortalized the moment by getting tattoos of Johnny's signature. For those of us without such permanent mementos, it is wonderful to have these pictures of the evening. Many thanks to Bonnie, AnaMaria and Carasun for sharing them with us.

Three days after this premiere, on January 13, 2008, Johnny Depp won his first Golden Globe Award as Best Actor in a comedy or musical for SWEENEY TODD, and Tim Burton's film was honored with the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical. With this gallery, we celebrate their achievement. Cheers to SWEENEY TODD!
