Re: Johnny Depp Officially on IG and Facebook...and TikTok
Thank you for posting all 0f these fireflydances. Django's version is so beautiful...it makes me long so desperately for my former life...but I don't know if it is my life before the pandemic, my life when I was a young, vibrant woman, or the life I lived in my heart as my truest self. Thanks also to Johnny for always touching me deeply with his art.
I'll buy you the hat....a really big one.

Re: Johnny Depp Officially on IG and Facebook...and TikTok
I saw a few people hoping he would get to 9 million by 1 January - after his most recent post one of the trackers which gives daily totals had his follower increase by 70,000 in three days (that includes today).
Can anyone explain to me what the heck is going on with her account? She has been stuck at 3.9 million (steady at 3,918,000-ish for ages, despite a new TV show and lots of coverage in the media, hhmmm why would that be???) - but every week she seems to loose at least a thousand followers and then gain them back over a few days. I assume it is some sort of bot buying scheme?

Re: Johnny Depp Officially on IG and Facebook...and TikTok
When I saw the William Saroyan quote on Johnny's Instagram page I remembered.
Back in November of 2009, ONBC held a month-long discussion of three writers we associate with Depp: Kerouac, Hunter Thompson and William Saroyan. Two different works of Saroyan were discussed, his short story "The Parsley's Garden" and a short essay entitled "Why I Write" that Saroyan included as the introduction to his 1939 play "The Time Of Your Life." I remember the second so acutely because it was simply fascinating to learn that Johnny had such a deep attachment to the short piece Saroyan had penned, and in fact he kept a printed copy of Saroyan's piece in his wallet.
And there it was in the last days of December 2020, looking exactly as it would if it had been folded and stowed away for years, brown, aged paper with a hint of fragility.
I quote from ONBC's Autumn Authors Week 2 William Saroyan
STUDIO Magazine February 2000:
"To tell the truth, I don't really remember how I came to read this short text by William Saroyan and published in the late 30ies, as an introduction to one of his plays "The time of the your life". It is quite an extraordinary text I always have with me and I read again and again. A sublime text I deeply believe in. It fits to all of the characters I played. I wish I was able to write it by myself, if only I was gifted in writing. The fact is that if I was the author of such a text I would have stopped everything after. No more movies, no more music, no more painting. Nothing else. Full stop." ~ Johnny Depp
That was a fabulous gift.

Johnny's instagram couldn't be bothered to hang around at 9.1 million followers it seems. Just watched it slip into 9.2 million.

Oh my. He sounds wonderful. I've teared up, what apt words. I think we've got an album with Jeff Beck to look forward to?

Thank you SnoopyDances.
Johnny comes through with another stellar piece!
He salutes John Lennon but also made the cover his own with a tweek to the lyrics.
Apropos for the times. It's his Fight Song.

^^^Both, I think. fireflydances I remember that quote also. I miss ONBC, and often go back and revisit our discussions. I love the typewriter font in this piece, and was wondering if that is actually his, with the clogged and misaligned keys. His reverence for the past, for physical talismans to connect with people he reveres is so touching.

The typeface looks old-fashioned, like something used in newspapers back in the day. Very arty feel to it, the e's and the o's in particular. All lower case and quite large spaces between the characters. Just a gut feeling on my part, but there's something sort of 1930s about it. Who knows? Maybe it is a typeface he prefers. The visual matters to him.stroch wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:40 am^^^Both, I think. fireflydances I remember that quote also. I miss ONBC, and often go back and revisit our discussions. And yes, I miss ONBC too. For me it was the researching things and writing about them. Every book had thousands of rooms in it where worlds of ideas or style opened up. Every single book was a mine to be dug out. BTW, the New York Times ran an article yesterday about the 50 Best Memoirs in the past 50 years. I was sitting there taking down stuff that looked interesting and I come across Boyhood by JM Coetzee. That was a book I discovered because I was working on Waiting for the Barbarians. Great read. Also, if you like memoirs, the article includes lots of wonderful possibilities.
