Thanks Theresa...absolutely beautiful children. Isn't it amazing what medicine and kind people willing to give can do. As soon as I get some $$, I'm donating.

For those who may not fully understand the situation, the cleft is a hole in the roof of the mouth. It usually cannot safely be fully corrected until the child's head and mouth have stopped growing, so it is generally done in stages over many years' time. There are other problems that can occur as well. Tooth buds are sometimes misplaced in the mouth and orthodonture and even surgery are needed to straighten sometimes badly misplaced teeth.
Thank you Theresa and you are perfectly right in what you say. My own great great nephew has to wait until he is 9 years old and will then have to have a piece of bone taken from his leg to "make teeth" for one side of his mouth. So many complications for these children and so sad to hear what they have to go through to lead normal lives.

What a beautiful thread. Gives one hope in the world today and to know that the generous ladies here in The Zone are doing what they can in Johnny's name makes me feel blessed to be in the midst of wonderful people.
The pictures of the children and staff are very touching!

I agree, Jack's Wench. :goodvibes:

Just the thought that our little fundraising drive might give another child a chance to smile like that...makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing all these pictures of the children, Theresa.

It's so easy to take a smile for granted. It's wonderful to think that the Birthday Project donations may help bring smiles to children's faces--what could be more beautiful than that?

And it's fitting, too, since Johnny Depp has given us so much to smile about over the years. We're just passing that gift on to others.

I had a friend in high school born with this same problem. I remember the orthodontal care needed to restore her teeth. She was always loving & cheerful no matter what she was going through, and I've always loved her smile.

What a privilege to help another child smile.
