Johnny Depp to Open an Art Exhibit in N.Y.C. This Fall Exploring 'Different Stages of My Journey' (Exclusive)
By Benjamin VanHoose Published on September 9, 2024 01:00PM EDT
Johnny Depp is giving a peek inside his creative process with a new art exhibit coming soon.
Set to open in New York City on Friday, Oct. 4, an immersive and experiential exhibition called A Bunch of Stuff will be an "intimate exploration of Depp’s body of art works for the first time," according to the creative team.
The exhibit features Depp's personal artifacts and ephemera from his homes and art studios, and it's said to showcase his "distinctive personality and sense of humor."
Depp, 61, says in a statement to PEOPLE, "Through the magic and madness of life, art has been my sanctuary. These pieces, born of different stages of my journey are a residue of a life lived."
"Creation is not always a comfortable process, but for me it’s a necessary one," he adds.
The exhibit includes art dating back to the Oscar nominee's early 20s, plus a cinematic score and soundscape, immersive animations and experiential gallery spaces.
A Bunch of Stuff comes from BAUART, a creator of museums, exhibitions and experiences, in association with Pantheon Art and its partners TAIT. The venue is represented by the Kagency.
"Johnny Depp is celebrated worldwide as an actor, director and musician. What is less well known is that art has played a deeply personal and highly important role in his life since childhood," BAUART co-founder Guy Vesey says in a statement.
Vesey continues, "We believe A Bunch of Stuff will leave audiences inspired to create; to realize, as Depp exemplifies, that art can be more than just paint on canvas. That it can be healing, transformative and empowering for all ages, no matter your background or experience."
A Bunch of Stuff opens Friday, Oct. 4, at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. To learn more and find tickets, visit abunchofstuff.com.

More Johnny art coming -- Visting A Bunch Of Stuff
Yesterday I finally had a chance to go see A Bunch of Stuff in NYC. I live in Maryland and so going to see the exhibit was going to require either a plane, a train or a car. Amtrack trains are expensive, a bus was a possibility, but I worried about winter weather and cancellations. So I decided after much agonizing that I was going to make the 6-7 hour drive up. I am so very glad I did this, and if you are in driving distance, please try it. I was advised that the exhibit will be open through the end of January at least. The entry ticket is $40.
What was it like? The place felt like Johnny. And it felt quite intimate. The art, and all the surrounding items -- desks, and chairs, and an old leather couch, and all sorts of art supplies and desk items, notebooks, etc carries him to the visitor as one walks or sits, And you can sit as long as you wish on his sofa or in his chairs. And you can add your own art in one room. The whole thing is just such a very deep look into his head. I loved the fact that you could leave him a handwritten note, and I sat and thought out what I wanted to say, and left it stuck to the wall already thoroughly covered with other visitor remarks. I loved the film which plays in the center room and features Johnny's work and which is narrated by him. LIke everything else in the exhibit the film is now stuck in my head -- I see Moo, his old dog, wandering through a field of red flowers. In fact, I loved the film so much I watched it twice. I spent more than an hour there, literally soaking up everything visually so when I left I remained surrounded, in my head, by all that I saw.
I reserved a parking space in a garage a couple of blocks from the art show. (Garage on 10th Ave and 25th -- the exhibit 11th Ave and 27th) It cost about $30. To get into to Manhattan via the Lincoln tunnel I had to pay a fee of $18 but nothing more when I left the city. I know NYC very well, and I haven't been there in about seven years when my mother, who lived out on Long Island passed, so simply being in the city, and surrounded by the sights, sounds, people, birds, etc. was simply the best thing I have done for myself in many, many years. The drive up and back was a total of 12 hours. My brother can't believe I easily drove all that but I was super motivated and literally high on the show all the way home.
Of course I bought the book. Frankly I wasn't planning on actually seeing the exhibit until they stopped selling the book on the website. I am so very glad they forced me to come up in person. I will never forget this day.

Snoopy and In Too Deep -- thank you for your kind comments! It was a wonderful day and I hope some other decide to try the trip. I feel like I know him now, like a distant friend. So happy he is doing stuff like this. His sense of spiritual generosity is so present in the exhibit. A talented man, but also a very kind and thoughtful man.
