Personally I'd like to see one more film, they teased us about more at the end of the last one so I'd like them to go forward with that and then if they wish to change things up after that it's up to them. I won't be watching any Pirates films without Jack in them and Johnny certainly doesn't need POTC, he has more than enough other projects to work with.
:toastingpirates: Agreed! But I want him to play Jack as he did in the first one: less silly, less drunk, more crafty. No question he is a great actor who accurately depicted Jack's sad, downtrodden state at the time of POTC5, but it wasn't appealing. Bring back Verbinski, even though he's expensive.

I did like the scenes with Salazar and Jack Sparrow in POTC5. Maybe the CGI/motion capture Young Jack Sparrow was a taste of what Disney plans for a reboot. Still, I won't see it without Johnny.

I will definitely be done watching any new Pirate movies without Captain Jack ! I will treasure my pirate movies and memorabilia and my 5 year old granddaughter will know and love Captain Jack, she already does.

I'm waiting to see an official announcement from Disney before I resolve to the idea of a POTC film without Johnny's Captain Jack. :toastingpirates:

Would prefer to have Capt. Jack Back. :captainjack:
Would not be a good film without Capt. Jack.
I can see the "powers that be" recruiting someone "Jack Like" to play Capt. Jack but it will not be the same without Johnny's Jack Persona.
But my opinion is just that my opinion. The film makers are in this to make money and if the sponsers do not like a particular person they pull their support and the film never gets off the ground. It is like being between a rock and a hard place. No wiggle room. Shunning is a terrible form of punishment but it happens. :-/

See if Fantastic Beasts makes a difference. If it goes over the top, there just may be hope for a revived Capt. Jack role for Johnny.

Sending big hugs.

Despite what’s been in the “media” over the last couple days, there is NO CONFIRMATION from Disney whether Johnny/Captain Jack will be in or out of the next Pirates film, be it reboot or a continuation of the current franchise.

They used to mock him for doing POTC sequels and now it's a bad thing for his career that he's moving on to more serious projects. Hypocrites.

I would prefer he didn't. I absolutely love Capt Jack. That first Jack was so incredible because basically Johnny was in control. A character spun out of his own imagination. So perfect, explosive, anti-establishment, flying in the face of everything. But I don't think he has that freedom with this character anymore. It's a property -- he no longer owns it. Art comes out of nowhere. Sometimes it doesn't hit its mark but when it does it is miraculous and truly revolutionary.

If he wishes, let him find more unique characters that blow our minds. I am ready to tag along.

^^^That's true, but I hate to think of Johnny without Captain Jack in his pocket. Since Disney owns the character, he won't be able to do his hospital visits, or even quote the script like the vid in the morning thread. And I want him to get the Pearl back and sail away.

That's a truly terrible thought. But then, Jack's words in someone else's mouth would be ridiculous. If they make more Pirates, they will need to start fresh. Maybe with a new lead. Anything else would be a box office failure because audiences want true characters, not replacements or stand-ins. Once the "Jack" Johnny played is retired, I think he would be capable of continuing to do his own thing. I mean, lots of actors so "become" a role that they are indistinguishable -- role and man joined at the core.

I don't want more Capt Jack because I want Johnny free of the oppression playing this role for Disney has become. It's a corporation. It has nothing to do with the well spring of creative intensity that was Jack.

Oh fireflydancer, you're so right and I think the same way as you. It's really important that Johnny is free enough to play other characters. He is a great artist / actor and not only a " Movie Star " .

:thankyou: Meeps for the link. Since it credits " sources close to" Johnny, my first reaction was that the story is something made up by his nephew's ex- wife, Heather Rassel, trying to cash in again on Johnny's name.

Then again, it could be from Johnny's team, since I read a few comments on one of the "Disney drops Depp" articles opining that this all sounds like a contract dispute. And today Deppography has posted a link to the Instagram account of a model who is thrilled to have met Johnny in Paris, and he appears next to her saying, " Why's the rum gone?" Deppography also has a link to the instagram acct of children' s hospital, Institut Curie, where Johnny visited children today in full Jack Sparrow costume! This is all veeerrry interesting! The translation of the picture caption follows.
This afternoon, #JackSparrow the most famous of all pirates has made a surprise visit to the children and adolescents of our # pediatrics service! A great gift two days after # Christmas that made the joy of all: children, adults, patients, families, caregivers, doctors and researchers.
this huge thanks to Johnny Depp for his time, his energy, his comfort and his commitment to the most fragile

NoJack - no Pirates.
It would be like making a Bond film without Bond.
I watch these films for Captain Jack. And without him they are....empty.
