Pirates 6 with New Jack or No Jack?
I love what Bruckheimer says about Johnny here - sorry, Jack - and fully agree with him

Even with all of the phony controversy surrounding Johnny, I do not think too many people would go to see a Pirates of the Caribbean movie that does not include him. Captain Jack Sparrow is iconic.

Re: Pirates 6 with New Jack or No Jack?
What is it without him? Just a dull pirates thing with monsters and ghouls. They can easily revamp it and keep Jack as a character - as has been said many times before, it works best when he riffs off the others rather than having the story focused on him. The character works as both a disruptor and an anti-hero. They tried slightly revamping it last time with the new young couple - I thought she was really good. Johnny said it well in that not-to-be-mentioned RS article - no one wants to see Captain Jack sad. They had him back to his best at the end of P5, and there were some good comic moments in the film, but Johnny was clearly not in a happy place when he filmed it (cannot imagine why!), I think if they came up with something fresh he'd ace it. Of course it still made 800 million ........

Re: Pirates 6 with New Jack or No Jack?
For me I think the song has been sung. I adore Jack but whilst the fifth film was fun I don’t find it bears repeat viewings, I really question whether there is enough life left in Pirates for a sixth movie, whether Johnny is involved in it or not (just my own view and of course I’m not a filmmaker).
I think they are a bit clueless in thinking the franchise would work without him and there would be much interest in it. I can think of some actors who would make interesting pirates but Jack’s unique personality would be hard to replace.
I still wish that Johnny had won the Oscar back in 2004, there was such a zeitgeist around him and the character at the time, it’s interesting to consider how his performance might now be viewed had there not been endless sequels.

My opinion is any reboot should be totally removed from the first 5 films. The only things in common should be pirates and the Caribbean Sea.
A reboot does not even need to have the supernatural if someone can think of a story without it.
The target audience for the reboot might not be fans of the original. If Disney want to sell more toy swords and pirate hats, they might intend it for young boys.

Some fun scenarios that likely won't happen: Jack Depp as young Jack Sparrow or Lily-Rose Depp as Jacqueline Sparrow or some other female pirate. Jack doesn't act, as far as I know.
For those wanting some souvenirs of Jack Sparrow, that deppmerch.com website that's affiliated with johnnydeppofficial instagram has the pirate medallion necklace, keychain and Jack Sparrow rum t- shirt 50% off. The sale was in place weeks ago, it's not because of today's announcement by Stuart .

Or Lily-Rose as Jack's daughter, who comes to warns him about Angelica, who is plotting to ... Tshe
I must admit, I would love to have Jack's saga end (at least moviewise, although not in our imaginations) with Angelica and him sailing off into the sunset bickering and kissing on their way to new adventures, with or without Lily-Rose mixed up in it

I know I'm in the minority, but I look forward to more Pirates movies. The sequel plots leave a lot to be desired, and the supporting characters need adjustment, but even the worst Jack Sparrow is better than no Jack Sparrow. I don't ever want him to sail away forever. (I just deleted a few sentences about "what I'd like to see" as it was mini fan fiction.) More Jack, please.
I'll buy you the hat....a really big one.

Thanks for that, stroch, it helps to keep the News Board a place for news and opinions. We have a Fan Creations forum here on the Zone, and Zoners who are so inclined are welcome to write fan fic there!stroch wrote:I know I'm in the minority, but I look forward to more Pirates movies. Meeps, I am a fan of Jack & Angelica, too! Particularly the funny last scene of P4 where they're arguing and he leaves her on the island.meeps wrote:Or Lily-Rose as Jack's daughter, who comes to warns him about Angelica, who is plotting to ... Re: Pirates 6 with New Jack or No Jack?
So someone commented on a Depp FB site that tbe latest rumor is that Disney dropped Johnny because the cost to insure him for a new Pirates film is too high. Well, that really doesn't make sense because Fantastic Beasts had to insure him and that budget is smaller ($180) than the last Pirates film, which was approx $250 mil. I realize Warner Bros may be using a different insurance company, but couldn't Disney shop around for a better insurance deal?
And I kind if wonder about Disney letting this info get out just before FBCOG is premiering. They're obviously trying to hitch a ride on the increased PR Johnny is getting now, but it seems a little vengeful.

If I were an insurance underwriter, I would want more money to cover a film with swords on boats than with wands in a studio. But I don't think this is an insurance issue.Ruby Begonia wrote:So someone commented on a Depp FB site that tbe latest rumor is that Disney dropped Johnny because the cost to insure him for a new Pirates film is too high. I think Disney are trying to expand the franchise to increase the the ways they can make money. They will only proceed if there is a good script.

The timing is very suspicious. Not only a few weeks away from FB2 premiering, but right after two new JD projects were announced.

Re: Pirates 6 with New Jack or No Jack?
Disney has stated that there are no firm decisions about whether Johnny is involved or not, apparently the person who first spoke out did have some connection to previous films but he is not involved or connected to current talks or decision making. This is just all media speculation with no foundation so we should just wait and see what announcements they make in the future.
Personally I'd like to see one more film, they teased us about more at the end of the last one so I'd like them to go forward with that and then if they wish to change things up after that it's up to them. I won't be watching any Pirates films without Jack in them and Johnny certainly doesn't need POTC, he has more than enough other projects to work with.
