THE PROFESSOR (Richard Says Goodbye) Updates
Just checked: RT has created a page for The Professor. No reviews as yet - wonder if the awful ones given by that glossy rag Variety and several others, when the film (as “Richard Says Goodbye” ) was reviewed after a showing at the ZFF, will eventually show up unchanged.

You can rent it for three days if you have DirectTV and it will be On Demand sometime in May. I've been watching it and really enjoyed it.

I apologize for digressing but must pose what is probably a now-rhetorical question rattling around in many of our angry, sad, frustrated brains: when was the last Johnny Depp movie to have a straight to TV release? If this is not evidence of yet another major chink in Johnny’s reputation directly resulting from the viper’s unrelenting defamation, I don’t know what is . . .
I’m still holding out hope to see it in a theater.

I hope it will eventually be released on Bluray, too. With this movie's history we may be lucky to see it at all, not because of Johnny but because off the business complications/problems in production.

The growth of streaming services means that many more movies are released by streaming or pay-TV. It is not as reputation damaging as it would have been decades ago. It could be less damaging than a theatrical release with very poor box-office. DIRECTTV is a satellite TV provider so not the same as free broadcast TV.justintime wrote:“ . . . Agreed. Remember this movie - and City of Lies - were caught up in a failed business and subsequent issues. I do think that with that - plus the Rocky legal case - City of Lies needs to be sat on until it can be properly released. It did - after all do very well in Italy and was well reviewed.
I want to see Johnny make films like Barbarian and Minamata - but if independent films are to have a future, a vital element will be streaming services and TV deals. I don't understand how the company that has partnered on Barbarians and Minamata operates but apparently the guy who runs it has an innovative approach to screening platforms.
