Interesting. Hope it actually was a matter of a conflicted conscience.
An attorney leaving a law firm in the middle of a litigation is not a good sign. :perplexed2:

Mr. Katz has joined the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment counsel. Apparently he’s quite a respected attorney.
Nothing to do with his sentiments on the progress of the JD case.

Seems Matz just joined Kaplan’s firm this past September. I don’t believe he left the firm to join the House’s legal counsel, he is joining as a Kaplan guy - adding considerable prestige to Kaplan’s firm.

Kaplan's firm might loose some of that prestige when Waldman goes after them for sanctions and other fines.

So sorry, ForeverYoung! You are absolutely right: Mr. Matz DID leave Kaplan’s firm (#1. In the filed motion).
I guess this was an offer (opportunity) he couldn’t refuse for many reasons . . .

Some thoughts from Joshua Matz (on Twitter) about the AH case, apparently when Kaplan & Co. initially got involved. I find it so disturbing to read an opinion like this from a reputedly intelligent person, lawyer or not. I have to wonder what kind of independent (?) research Mr. Matz did to reach this conclusion.

Hey managed to lock myself out again and had to re register this is Ade. Anyone else followed the Rose Macgowan development today. She is suing Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers and investigators one of whom is Lisa Bloom. Guess who her lawyer is ? Eric George. Could it be the same Eric George?

Note* This thread is complicated enough as it is, please let's stay on topic and not veer off into other people's lawsuits. Appreciated, thank you.

"A message sent from Matz’s law firm email address said he is taking a “short term leave-of-absence” to “work on a matter in the public interest.” Matz, who did not respond to a request for comment, is no longer listed on Kaplan Hecker’s staff page." Sounds like they are trying to sugar coat his departure. So now he goes from defending someone who has no evidence or witnesses to support her fraudulent claims of abuse to a committee involving the impeachment of his President. I wonder how this guy sleeps at night.

I don’t know how to post this correctly, BUT these are two videos of Johnny’s September, 2019, deposition in the Rocky case. Many, many thanks to Brian McPherson for all of it and apologies to him for my butchering his excellent work and commentary.

PRESS INSIDE THE BOX, after reading the two comments, to get to the videos and additional commentary from Mr. McPherson.

Johnny did good. He must have been nervous because it looks like he was breathing heavy but I think that is common in these type of situations. At least he didn't make a drama about it.

Yes, Johnny did very well, no question about it. I have to say, I think Mr. McPherson’s choices of “calm, sincere, and confident” are exactly what we see. And something else, driven I guess, by the truth: a sense of unhurried thoughtfulness that went into every response. Truly, like night and day when compared to AH’s frenetic storytelling.

Two other thoughts :
1. Would it be a stretch to think the Motion Rocky filed September 24, 2019, in Limine No.1 to “Exclude Paragraph 12 of the Film LA Monitor Report” was referring to the fifteen minute, 10:45 pm separate event Rocky had with someone else (flipping the finger, etc.) and that preceded the 11:00 pm issue with Johnny?
The motion was, rightfully, denied (October 7, 2019), but what a sleazy, sneaky ( “It was irrelevant”!) assertion. I can see why they would not want have wanted the jury to know about it, especially after Johnny’s Deposition, if, indeed, that is what “Paragraph 12” was referencing.

2. I read a comment somewhere before watching the videos and didn’t think too much about it till I watched Johnny’s reaction - obviously surprised - to seeing/reading about the 10:45 pm event for the first time, from Rocky’s attorney, during his Deposition.
The commenter noted that Rocky’s attorney sounded so sweet, but she was obviously trying (in both videos) to trip Johnny up when she asked, after getting his reaction to Rocky’s lack of professionalism in the earlier event, “had anyone discussed the 10:45 event with you (Johnny) prior to now or did you (Johnny) know anything about it prior to this day”.

Note: Thank you! to the person who so kindly cleaned up my original post
You're welcome!

Virginia Press Association Files To Enter Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Case

Oct 28, 2019 at 16:27 pm UTC / Last Updated at Oct 28, 2019 at 16:28 pm UTC
By Mike Walters
The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case has just added another organization who believes the implications of the outcome of this case could be widespread, The Virginia Press Association. According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, The VPA has filed a request to be heard in the case via amici curiae. In the filing, the VPA says it is, "comprised of 225 members, including daily and weekly newspapers based throughout Virginia. These members report on matters of public concern on a daily basis including matters involving public figures like Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard." The organization is clear, in the filing, it will not offer any comment or claims regarding the validity of any allegations of domestic violence. But, the VPA points out it, "has a strong interest in the outcome of this case, which involves a claim of defamation by implication arising from an op-ed published by The Washington Post, a member of the VPA." It continues, "Even though Johnny and Amber have "no significant ties to the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VPA and its media members, on the other hand, reside and work within the Commonwealth, and the outcome of this defamation by implication case could have a significant effect on those journalists and their work within the Commonwealth." The VPA is asking the court to allow lawyers for the organization to be heard before a hearing on November 8, 2019. The organization contends the intention of filing an amicus curiae brief is to, "discuss the elevated chilling risks for allowing public figure plaintiffs like Mr. Depp to state a claim for defamation."

In a statement, Johnny Depp's attorney Adam Waldman calls the growing number of participants in this case, "powerful co-conspirators." “After confessing under oath and being arrested and incarcerated for separate violent domestic assaults, Amber Heard is an odd spokesperson against domestic abuse. And Ms. Heard also oddly has a growing list of powerful co-conspirators – The ACLU, Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun, Elon Musk, James Franco, and her other hoax assisters who keep running from their depositions," Waldman says. He continued, "Today, Ms. Heard added the Virginia Press Association, fighting to oppose Mr. Depp’s defamation case despite their written admission that they have done zero due diligence on the case. We will get to the bottom of each of these co-conspirators’ motivations, and how Harvey Weinstein’s #TimesUp lawyers interact with each of them."

Amber Heard's attorney Roberta Kaplan says she welcomes the involvement of the VPA telling us, "Because Mr. Depp has brought an incoherent and legally baseless lawsuit against her in Virginia, Ms. Heard has had no choice but to defend herself. We welcome the action of the Virginia Press Association, an independent group of more than 200 newspapers, for seeking to weigh in about the important First Amendment principles at stake in this case. This is what happened—Ms. Heard wrote an op-ed about the horrible backlash that many women face when they speak the truth about powerful men. By dragging her through this meritless lawsuit, Mr. Depp only continues to prove her point.” Johnny Depp's attorney is questioning the tactics of Amber's legal team, in the use of private investigators in the case.
The case is due back in court for the hearing on November 8.

I think that’s the first time I’ve seen Kaplan use the word TRUTH. I hope that kills their whole claim that it was just about all women’s experiences against men (plural)

I’m sick over this move. Honestly they are trying to burying him figuratively and literally. He has four hearings this month his lawyers must prepare and win

So VPA is more worried about freedom of speech than reporting truth. Isn’t this why we have defamation laws in the first place

Weird action since there is established law (cited by Depp's team with their first filing) regarding defamation by publication in Virginia, which I believe referenced electronic publication.

To quote Ichabod Crane: "There's conspiracy here!"

Seriously, though, the opposition is quite formidable and I hope no one is "getting to" the judge behind the scenes. Judge White still hasn't ruled on Heard's request for dismissal yet (unless I missed something).

Depp's team keeps hinting about adding co-defendants to this case, e.g., ACLU & The Washington Post. Heard's losing this case could open the door to Johnny winning several more lawsuits against various other parties alleged to have defamed him as well as reopen the 2016 divorce proceedings.

I also find the latest Disney/Jack Sparrow possible replacement news aspect very interesting. Did Disney decide to reboot without Depp/Sparrow because the judge allowed the potentially explosive personal and medical information to be included in the case? Or is Disney putting out fake replacement news as a way of helping Johnny show Heard's damaged his reputation so much that they're dropping him? What about the Sparrow impersonator showing up on the red carpet before Johnny at the guitar hotel opening? I haven't seen a picture of him but guests said he looked like Johnny as Sparrow. Did Johnny show up in costume and then as himself as a way if hinting that he will be Sparrow in a reboot? If Disney dropped Depp, why would Johnny want a Sparrow impersonator at this event advertising for Disney? Or is Johnny reminding Disney that no one can replace him as Sparrow?

Disney exec announced Johnny was out of POTC on December 22 AH OpEd was December 18. As Johnny cited for damages in his lawsuit

November 8 is the hearing for the judge to decide if AH can amend their original filing to Johnnys lawsuit, asking for a demurrer to have it dismissed and/or a Plea in Bar. So November 8 is only a hearing, Now the VPA also wants to be heard as a fiend of the court regarding her OpEd being covered under Virginia anti SLAPP law. Anyway, If the judge rules in November 8 that AH can file her demurrer, it won’t be heard until November 22

Now this was to be heard earlier this month. But AH team opted to delay this hearing and push forward the hearing on the motion to compel, which AH won. That means, all of Johnny’s documents, medical, arrests, partners, etc will be in AH hands before her dismissal hearing in November 22. If this case were to get dismissed, think about what AH now has at her disposal to leak. Only the medical records were ruled to be kept private and protected, as I understand.
