I think they were just not summoned for cross-examination, but their witness statements are still valid.

The way I'm reading it, NGN didn't file the correct paperwork to question Winona and Vanessa if Johnny said he didn't want to hear them. Mr. Sherborne for Johnny is quoted by Nick on Twitter in response to Ms. Wass / NGN saying she would like to cross-examine: "There is no basis for Ms Wass to Cross-examine the witnesses as she did not put it to Mr Depp... so there is no permissible way for her to do that."

Winona was there when he was young and wild, so if she said he wasn't violent then, it would have verified that he wasn't an abusive partner even before he had settled down with Vanessa and the kids.

I still feel like they're just letting the statements speak for themselves and putting more time and focus on Amber and her witnesses. Johnny was in the stand longer than planned, so I'm guessing they want to do the same with Amber & friends.

I really don’t understand why they would drop WR and VP.
More time to put team AH through the wringer. The longer I think about it, the more sense it makes.

Maybe JD's team was keeping Winona and Vanessa last for a reason and not really planning to use them unless they thought it was necessary. Frankly, Winona would have been a waste since their relationship was a long time ago and Vanessa could only testify to how Johnny acted when he was with her. The rest would be heresay.

Also we don't know what goes on behind closed doors and for those reasons there might have been a discussion with the judge that it would be a waste of time and money at this point and they want to get Amber on the stand. It probably been a rough week for her and want to get her on the stand while she is volnurable. She's been out partying and shopping at night and is probably tired of the whole ordeal by now.

There is also a technical point as I am reading it. Sun didn't accuse JD of hitting any other woman - on AH.

VP and WR evidence was originally put in for the Virginia case and even there it isn't really anything more than a character witness. They didn't see anything to do with AH. So even if they sat in court - they are just going to re-emphasise what they've already said and it doesn't really add anything in a legal sense to the case.

This isn't a big deal although watch the Sun make it one. Luckily JD isn't trying to win in the tabloid press but in court and in people's hearts and minds.

My view is that there is nothing to be gained by JD's side calling them other than good publicity. And the clock is ticking faster as Grindelwald said - much more important to focus on the witnesses who saw something.

I had that thought as well! Winona especially. Vanessa and their relationship/kids were brought up by the Sun, so it made more sense for her to testify.

I really think this might be a bit of legal chess going on. Maybe since NGN assumed Johnny really wanted these two to testify, NGN didn't file their own separate request for cross-examination. And Johnny's team was counting on this happening, so they could cancel the cross-examinations on short notice to make up for time lost by Ms Wass' lengthy email reading, playing the same video clip over and over etc.

I think this story has been absolutely devastating for Vanessa and the kids.
Lily begged to stand outside the court to talk to journalists which JD's lawyers refused.

As far as Vanessa is concerned, I've been a fan for more than 20 years, I've never seen her in such a state than recently, on paparazzis pictures. She has lost an incredible amount of weight and is chain smoking again :freaked: A lot of people are very worried about her.

I'm sorry too.
I know they aren't together anymore but she's still find of Johnny and she's the mother of his kids, it must be awful for Lily and Jack to have their dad dragged through the wringer like this.

I've just read in the Mirror that 'unseen' photos of Johnny with facial injuries are now being shown.

I think Johnny's team are focusing on grilling Amber and her co conspirators before hearing statements from Winona and Vanessa, regarding Lily I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny has quietly asked them to not let her speak to the press himself, as he's protective of his kids.

Random thoughts.

Appreciating the daily arrival shots of both JD and AH - looks like more and more people are turning up. Now isn't it so curious that Johnny gets out and walks through the crowd (who all want to hug him) and AH has to come around from a side and just wave at the press. What's wrong - does she think people might not greet her in the same delighted way?

I'm sort of hoping JD's legal team might have said - we don't need to worry about Vanessa and Winona - we'd like to give AH another day. You know because she doesn't want to be silenced and all of that. And since we've clearly shown what a good guy JD is - he'd really love her to have a bit more time ......

Reading through the witness statements Winona and Vanessa made, I think it was the right decision to move on without hearing them. It would have been another day of Ms Wass asking "Did he take cocaine? But he did take cocaine! You're lying about the cocaine! Did he take ecstasy? Yes he did! You're lying about the ecstasy! ..." Yadda yadda, adding basically no substance and just wasting time on her favorite topic.

The statements are incredibly sweet, though they don't contain any groundbreaking new information. I hope they will be online as PDF files soon, not just Twitter snippets.

Johnny said on day 4 that the date is in early January 2021.

Seems to me that the suggestion that Wass would have gladly wasted a lot of time cross examining Vanessa and Winona and that the idea is to get Heard on the stand tomorrow rather than give her the whole weekend is the right one. This seems like perfect timing, Kate dropping the bomb, let's go in now. The witness statements by Winona and Vanessa are out and they're shorter than I expected, basically that Johnny is of course a great guy and he's incredibly loving and gentle. Not sure there's much to work with here.

I can only repeat what I'm told by a few fans who are there. Apparently there have been NO fans showing up for Amber that they have seen.

I wonder too if Sherborn is especially concerned with time and delays as Los Angeles is again announcing the possibility of a full lock down. They have locked down all but essential businesses as of now.

I tend to agree that dropping WR and VP is probably strategic to allow more time to watch Amber fall apart under cross-examination. The case is about if JD is a "wife-beater" and AH has been his only wife. As mentioned, the others are just character witnesses and whilst they may play a part in the VA case, not here.

JD's statement that he has/would never hit a woman is just a statement of the man's basic life philosophy. The case is if he hit his wife - Amber. I guess if it could be shown he hit someone else's wife, that would probably qualify him as a "wife-beater" too, but I haven't heard any claims re this either.

The statements are in the press, Daily Mail reported them already as part of another article.

Sorry I keep posting you guys are like my support group!

It's a pity she doesn't have to walk through the throng, I don't want anyone to harm or abuse her it would be magnificent if there was silence. It must kill her to see JD getting loved - even that must get through to her, but I suppose it just compounds her sense of victimhood.

The confusion continues: Johnny's legal team wants to call it quits early (2:30 London time) / adjourn to tomorrow. So much for making up for lost time?
