Re: The Lawsuits Thread

^^Excellent advice, thanks for posting this. Social media is a snake pit. It is very easy to manipulate people and deflect the conversation away from the point of the discussion. Not just social media-- I used to be on the board of a civic organization and it was a frequent technique to let everybod...

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

I saw that timeline on twitter and saved it...thank you for compiling it. These audio tapes.... it is so very sad for Johnny to have all of this out there for random people to analyze and argue over (me included.) He was dead right about making her up in his head. What a long nightmare for him.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

I think it should be private...actually, I thought it was. We know about the excessive traffic at times, but we don't know who generates all of it. I guess the mods can see the IP addresses and can do a search if something seems suspicious. Second edit: right now,I am the only registered member on l...

Waiting for the Barbarians Question 3: Setting

Disturbing to read about Coetzee's experiences with the police. When I read the book, I pictured something like Turkey, where there are dry plateaus, mountains, lakes, and ruins, but of course as a fantasy land, more exaggerated than in real life.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

Thanks Judymac, justintime, and ForeverYoung. I searched around and couldn't find a definitive answer. I did look at the L.A. assessors records, but they don't give the owners name. So again, thank you for the information.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

Does anyone know the disposition of the Sweetzer property dispute? Was it settled in Johnny's favor?

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

I think that the April 13 post about the big time drug dealer wanting his clients to exert pressure for dropping the lawsuit rings true. She who cannot be named is a grifter and it is very plausible that she referred many, many influential people to him/her. When I read that post, things just clicke...

Re: The Lawsuits Thread

I wish he had fought back right away also, but he did not appear to be in any fit state to do so. He was being abused physically and emotionally, blackmailed by his wife, his finances were in shambles, his mother had just died, and his work was derided. We all talked about how depressed he looked, h...

ONBC Anniversary!

Indeed...it's been quite a run. :hatsoff: The tidbits take a lot of work, as does responding to everyone's posts. :bouquet: So many have participated over the years with different points of view on the books...it's always interesting reading. So thanks to all, past and present, for being part of ONBC...

Devotion ~ Question #5 The Vision

I rather thought that she was giving us clues about her thought processes in writing her story, but that was probably because I accidentally opened the book to a section about skating on the pond, and then went back to the Paris stuff. So I wasn't confused, just perplexed as to why she would choose ...

Devotion ~ Question #2 Journals

No journals. I destroyed the ones I did write when I read them years later. Mortifying to have been so young and self-important.

Devotion ~ Question #4 Awareness

Too much to describe. I'm home in my library, and every book is one I've read and "need" to keep. There are two walls 15' long by 12' high with books, and another with books and things. The things are all freighted with memories. Just one object: an antique silver filigree fingernail guard. I didn't...

Devotion ~ Question #3 Reading

I read constantly at home, and always bring my current novel if I have any kind of appointment, because there is always a wait. I can't concentrate on anything but where I am and what I will be doing if I'm on vacation. I will take a New Yorker for plane trips because there is a lot of variety in th...

Devotion ~ Question #1 Inspiration

For me,inspiration comes from making connections, chaining ideas, or letting one stimulus provoke multiple possibilities. I follow the threads, and the whole materializes. If that makes any sense.
