Darlene Cates Q&A - #13

Unread postby Liz » Thu May 24, 2007 10:01 am

Q: Is it true that during the shooting of What's Eating Gilbert grape you did not want Leonardo DiCaprio to touch you because he was always so dirty?

A: No, it is not really true. He was a very dirty boy and sometimes it was hard to remember that it was only clean movie dirt......yes, there is such a thing. Initially, I recoiled at being hugged by such a scuzzy little boy, but it didn't take long to see past the dirt and feel real affection for Leo. We hugged a lot.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.

That's such a cute answer. From your answers it really does seem like the cast was a family off and on stage. Thanks so much for your input. :disco:

I think it would take me awhile, too, to buy that 'clean movie dirt' story! :eyebrow: But Leo was a lovable 'scuzzy' boy!

'Clean Movie Dirt,' sounds like the title of a failed celebrity magazine.
I must confess that I love those hugs between the two of you. I adore the visual unconditional love that's in the movie! :cloud9:
