WOW!!! Thank you ladies for posting all of those book titles. I've read every book I own about 15 times, and I've been searching for a good read. I feel so ignorant that you know so much about what Johnny reads.....I was completely clueless. Thanks to you girls, I've got a general idea now. (I don't know if that made any sense, but oh well.)
Thanks again!!!

At one stage his name was associated with Erik Larson's ''Devil in the White City'' and D.M.Thomas's The White Hotel',I don't know if he read them, but I have ...I often wonder if he reads the books some of his films are based on like Joanne Haris's ''Chocolat''..so I have read them in case He has mentioned reading Chekhov's short stories..I don't know which ones, but I have read lots anyway..I find them better than the plays...He was also associated with'' Confessions of a Dangerous Mind'' by Chuck Barris..the list is endless..I had a go at Sin City comics...then there is Richard Rayner's'' Los Angeles without a map'',which was fantastic...Then there is all the Jack the Ripper books, which one of the Hughes brothers,on the FH commentary, said Johnny had a big collection of..I know he spent time with Stewart Evans, the ripperologist,so I read his books too thinking Johnny would have probably read them..i.e.''The Lodger''

On the Blue Peter programme the other day they asked him which other Dahl books he'd read.
He said he'd read The BFG and the Great Glass Elevator.

The BFG is such a cute book. Thanks for that little tidbit, Gilbert's Girl.

Yes he considers Artaud a great inpiration. He told Studio magazine:
"He was a force of nature. He had the strength to defy everything in his path. Artaud never accepted compromise. He always stood his ground. Even after enduring 51 elecro-shock treatments for “subversive thoughts,” he stayed true to himself. Some of his writing I find deeply sublime, and some I totally disagree with. ... I think Artaud’s influence is immense, even if people don’t realize it. His influence is felt in rock, literature, poetry, and of course, in acting."
