Wow...these places are where John Ford made all the old John Wayne westerns. There should be a few old ghosts walking around in that desert.!
Yes, and isn't it the same area that has--or had--the very high concentration of radioactivity from the bombs that were made there underground (or something) in the 40's? Several actors and actresses that made movies there afterward died of cancer from it, supposedly.
OH, Don't scare me

This item gives us an idea of how long TLR filming will be in the Moab area. If 54 days is correct, then this will take them well into August. I don't envy them working in that intense heat.

“The Lone Ranger”, starring Johnny Depp, will soon start filming in the Moab area. This Disney Production involves 200+ people; filming in the Moab area will be for over 54 days. Locations include White Wash Sand Dunes, Amasa Back Trail, and several other areas around Moab.

Out of curiosity, I have not seen any reports of HBC on site? Anybody know if she has shot her portion yet?

No, but she was working on Les Miserables which has now wrapped after a slight delay.

She was on set whole they were in Albuquerque toward the beginning of filming. They seem to be doing the "on the road" action shots now, not the place for a good madam to be!

Guess that makes sense, Ruth Wilson also did scenes early in the shoot to didn't she.

Many thanks for all these goodies, Emma. You're the best! The train is gorgeous! Did everyone see that the plaque shows a date of manufacture of 1868 but locomotive number 2012?! I love details like that.

It's cool that they used dune buggies.
I find it rather horrifying, given the costs involved with those trains, that the production would leave them unattended like that. It's good that this group of ATVers is more curious than destructive but that may not hold true for the next group. Those dune buggies are theirs, not the production's.
Oh. Didn't know that! I thought they were part of the production.

I've seen dune buggies like that on other set pics. I think they are part of the crew.

Keep in mind that this was no longer a movie set. Filming was long finished there. The trains were sitting out in the desert unattended while workers were dismantling the town they built for filming. The group that took the photos were part of an ATV appreciation group and had used their own dune buggies to get there. They posted on the ATV forum so of course would show pics of their vehicles.

Not that it necessarily means there will be no Lone Ranger bits shown at ComicCon but Disney has not included it in their listed panels. I can't believe they'd pass up the chance to hype it. I guess we'll have to wait and see but here are their announced panels: .

Hopefully they will be some sort of discussion about it. I don't imagine any of the films actors would be available to be there. I imagine they missed as many days as they wanted, with Johnny's required days off for DS promotion. It's now time to get down to business and finish the film. We have a whole year to wait. Guess we better get out our knitting, to keep busy.
We are looking for some men willing to drive to Moab and work as local hires. Anyone from a surrounding town that would like to work on the film?
We are still looking for men ages 18-40s with longish hair and some facial hair to attend a costume fitting on Thursday, June 27th in Moab. Men from any city are welcome but you would have to have a place to stay locally. The film dates are July 2nd and 3rd in Moab.
Also, need 2 Native American men ages 18-30 with long hair. Must have a thin body type and be available to attend a costume fitting Thursday, June 27th in Moab and work in Moab on Friday, June 28th.
Please email us at Tontocast@yahoo.com. Send a photo and your height, weight and waist size asap please. Include your phone number.
Thanks everyone! Also, please share this post with anyone that might be interested. Very much appreciated.

CREEDE —By the time this is read, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer will be shooting and producing "The Lone Ranger" in their Moab, Utah, location.
It is about 30 degrees hotter than Creede and the cast and crew miss our climate, although not the smoke-filled skies which wafted over from the Little Sand Fire daily.
Restaurant, shop and lodge owners in Creede are happy with their through-the-roof-sales, which are doubled and tripled from a year ago.
Set builders have been pumping money into the mountain town’s economy since April.
In South Fork, crews stayed at local motels and ate frequently at area restaurants. When crews were not eating out, they purchased food to cook with at local grocers.
Both Creede and South Fork depend on sales tax revenue for their annual budgets and what they accrue is each town’s operating budget for the entire year.
There are no exact figures yet; however, rumor has it that Creede is showing abut a 200 percent increase in sales tax revenues. Creede hoped to pave their roads this fall without a bond and looks like they will accomplish this lofty goal. Folks lucky enough to be in Creede last Friday evening have photos on the internet to show what they were doing because they were meeting Johnny Depp.
It came as quite a surprise to everyone when the incredible actor decided to come out and spend time with the locals, but Depp apparently wanted to show his appreciation for the folks in Creede and the surrounding area.
The economic impact of Disney’s "The Lone Ranger" throughout the valley is said to be enormous. Of course, this does not include what the actual movie will do for the entire San Luis Valley in terms of ongoing tourism visits when the film is released on July 3, 2013.
There is a down side, as well.
Since all the lodging was taken up, the normal amount of tourists could not come. A fishing guide in town had seven full-day fishing trips scheduled at $420 each, but they all had to cancel due to lack of housing,
Most of the folks associated with the film were very nice, but townspeople say that the whole affair has disrupted early summer business.
The Creede Elks, who have bingo on Monday evenings were out about $1,000 because the film had the Community Center leased.
However, looking ahead, it is hoped that "The Lone Ranger" will finally get folks to notice the beautiful San Luis Valley.
What more can the Tourism Board ask for, especially when they do not have to spend a dime to entice people to visit? And the San Luis Valley Film Commission has one more movie to tout as they work to get more films to come.
Those who live here already know that, once tourists see the Valley, wherever they come from, they will return again and again.
