Many thanks for all these goodies, Emma. You're the best! The train is gorgeous! Did everyone see that the plaque shows a date of manufacture of 1868 but locomotive number 2012?! I love details like that.

It's cool that they used dune buggies.

I find it rather horrifying, given the costs involved with those trains, that the production would leave them unattended like that. It's good that this group of ATVers is more curious than destructive but that may not hold true for the next group. Those dune buggies are theirs, not the production's.

No..where? In one of the pics? I looked and looked but couldn't see what you're talking about. :perplexed: I didn't watch the videos.

I loved the wittiness of the text above the pics: 'Johnny Depp has left the desert.' A play on the words 'Elvis has left the building.'

Thanks, emma!

It's in the second link of pictures, right before the shots of the interior of the passenger car.

OK, thanks, Theresa. I hadn't gone that far the first few times. I had stopped at the first set of videos, not realizing there were more pics under them. And FAN has good eyes! I could barely make out the '2012'.

I love that it says "Jupiter" on the engine! Just a personal thing; that's my planet, astrologically speaking, having been born on the 12th day of the 12th month....

One of the replica engines at Promontory Point, Utah where the Golden Spike was driven, is named Jupiter. I wonder if that is a co-incidence or if there is a purpose behind the two.

I think you may be on to something there, Nebraska. The movie's Jupiter is engine #60 as is the Promontory Point engine. Good catch! Might that be a bit of a spoiler?

I think I read that filming was to finish in August.

I assume this is about TLR:

White Wash Sand Dunes Closure
June 22, 2012
Notice of Closure
for Filming

White Wash Sand Dunes Open Ride Area
June 22nd – 27th

White Wash Sand Dunes Open Ride Area and Surrounding Trails
June 25th – 27th

For Questions, Please Contact the
Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission
435.259.4341

It's currently 100 degrees in Moab and will be at or near that level for the rest of the week, not nearly as comfy for cast and crew as Creede was. White Wash Sand Dunes is about 48 miles northwest of Moab, Utah.

Wow...these places are where John Ford made all the old John Wayne westerns. There should be a few old ghosts walking around in that desert.!

Yes, and isn't it the same area that has--or had--the very high concentration of radioactivity from the bombs that were made there underground (or something) in the 40's? Several actors and actresses that made movies there afterward died of cancer from it, supposedly.

Probably. I think Nevada was the main place that was contaminated. They filmed The Conquorer (sp?) there. With J. Wayne and Susan Hayward. Alan Ladd directed. All 3 died of cancer, plus others who worked on the set. They said the dust was so thick and they all breathed it. This was back when all the nuclear tests were going on. Even when they finished filming in L.A., they said they took tons of that dirt back with them, to spread on the set. No one, back then, knew the effects of radiation. Sorry to get off topic.
