Birthday Project Update--we have reached $5,500! Fantastic!

Unread post by part-time poet » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:53 am

Here's a quick update on our 2012 Birthday Project fundraising . . .

the Zone has now received more than $5,500 in donations for Project Pueblo!

That's wonderful! :loveshower: Thank you so much to all our donors. :bouquet:

We have now collected enough money to provide water systems for three Navajo families (cost approximately $1,500), and we need only $500 more to provide water for a fourth family! That's fantastic! We have four days left to collect donations, so with your help we can surely make it to $6,000, and give another Navajo family clean water to drink. That's the gift of life itself.

:worldhug: and :highfive: to everyone who has contributed to this project. Your generosity is truly inspiring.

Johnny's birthday is Saturday--let's send him our best wishes in a way that reflects his own generous heart.

:balloons:

That's fantastic news PtP, I'm always impressed with the totals we generate with the birthday project at a time when so many are suffering financially. It just shows what can be achieved when we all pool together for something we care so much about.

A rousing cheer for the zone!! :toastingpirates:

Image

A screen cap from "The Brave" Rafael has lugged a bunch of containers down to the stream so he can fill them and bring the water back, so his children can take a bath. He stops at the edge of the stream to cup water and dash it over his face.

This little known movie contains so much about the Native American experience, and as we see here -- water, the center of life, the giver of all sustenance -- so many metaphors in that film point back to water, you know?

The idea of preventing, of eliminating the need for one family to do this daily, weekly is downright compelling. Particularly the elderly and the sick. You only have to watch "The Brave" once to remember the weight of those containers Rafael hangs onto the pole to drag home. Check out the most recent story in Theresa's Forgotten People: Faces of the Navajo Nation.

We are tantalizingly close to the edge of helping 4 families tonight.
