Mail in "Outbox", but not in "Sent"

What does it mean when a pm I composed and sent is in my "outbox", but not showing in my "sent" file? Has it truly been sent, or is it somewhere in limbo? Thanks for the info, in advance!

When you write a PM and hit submit, it moves into your Outbox. It stays there until the recipient actually opens it, at which time your PM will move to your Sent messages box. That's how you know that your message has been read by the recipient.
