How to Modify the User Control Panel

User Control Panel

Here's an in-depth introduction to the User Control Panel, where you'll find all the ways you can personalize the Zone. First, click on the User Control Panel link, located at the top left or right (depending on the board style you're using) of the forum. Find the Options box...we'll start with your PROFILE.

When you click the Profile link in the Options box, you'll get a submenu with all your profile options.
EDIT PROFILE: Here's where you enter your Instant messaging information (like AOL, Yahoo or MSN), if you want to have that displayed at the bottom of your posts.
You can also enter your personal website address here (please only do so if your site at least loosely adheres to the Zone's guidelines for profanity and content).
You can also add location, occupation, interests in this window;
And here is where you would add your birthday if you would like it to show up on the birthday list located at the bottom of the main forum page. (Don't put the year unless you want your age to show up as well. :yikes: )

EDIT SIGNATURE: This screen is where you add your signature, if you so desire to have one. We have a maximum limit of 255 characters, and 5 lines of text allowed for a personal signature.

EDIT AVATAR: Here's where you put in your Zone "face." (Johnny or Vanessa only, and no too-small-to-read text, please) You can upload an avatar from your computer, from the Zone's avatar gallery, or from an external URL ... no larger than 100 x 150 pixels, and no larger than 40kb in size.

EDIT ACCOUNT SETTINGS: Here's where you can change your password if you need to. You can't change your email address...please contact me at theresa@johnnydepp-zone.com or PTP at natalie@johnnydepp-zone.com if you need to change your email address. For security reasons, that feature has been disabled on the Zone.

EDIT GLOBAL SETTINGS:
Users can contact me by e-mail: Answering yes will make your email address public.
Administrators can e-mail me information: Not sure about this one; admin. can always see your emaill
Allow users to send you private messages:Note that administrators and moderators will always be able to send you messages.
Notify me on new private messages: Yes will generate an email to your default address when you get a PM
Pop up window on new private message: To better see when you have received a PM.
My language, My board style, My timezone, Summer Time/DST is in effect, My date format: All options to personalize...

BOARD STYLES:
We have five options for board styles: The Zone (default board), The Zone Wide, ONBC, Subsilver2 and Prosilver. The default Zone and the ONBC boards are both fixed width boards -- at 800 pixels wide -- good for smaller monitors and for reading large blocks of text. These two board styles have an automatic image resizer on them to display our board-sized images (800 x 1000 pixels) at a reduced size of 600 pixels wide, with an option to click on the picture to view the full-sized picture in a new window. (Look for the blue border around the picture to know it's a resized picture.)

The Zone Wide, Subsilver2 and Prosilver board styles are all full width, sizable styles. They're good for viewing our board-size pictures at full size or if you prefer to use the entire window on your monitor. Other than the width of the forum, the Zone Wide style looks identical to the default Zone style. Subsilver2 and Prosilver are two boards that are standard with the phpbb language that our board is in -- they are not as customized as our Zone and ONBC boards, but they do have the scrolling top 10 posts added to them.

All the boards are quite light in color, but each one is slightly different. So if you're having difficulty with the shades of the Zone board, be sure and try out the others. And if you have difficulty reading the text because the font is a bit too small, the Prosilver board has a three font-size option built right in to the main page. (at the top right of that board, look for the "A" )

EDIT POSTING DEFAULTS:
Enable BBCode by default: Yes to be able to use URL and IMG and colors and other post options.
Enable smilies by default:
Attach my signature by default: Yes to always have your signature at the bottom of your posts.
Notify me upon replies by default: Yes to receive an email when someone replies to your posts.

EDIT DISPLAY OPTIONS:
Display images within posts: For very slow connections that can't load a page with images...you have the option to turn off the automatic display of images
Display Flash animations: Say no to turn off any animations.
Display smilies as images: No to only show smilies as text instead of images.
Display signatures: You can choose to have other people's signatures display or not.
Display avatars:Again, best for very slow connections that can't display images.
Enable word censoring: Will always be yes.
Display topic and post options: These will change the way that the topics and posts are ordered on a page.

INBOX: Where PMs that have been sent to your are stored. Maximum of 5 at one time.
SAVED MESSAGES: Where you would send a message that you want to keep. It moves it from your inbox to the saved message box.
OUTBOX: Where messages you send are stored until the recipient picks them up.
SENT MESSAGES: When the other person picks up their message, your PM to them moves from the Outbox to Sent Messages. That's how you know the person has picked up and read their message.

COMPOSE MESSAGES: Where you write your PM messages...the starting point of a new PM.

MANAGE PM DRAFTS: If you're in the middle of composing a PM and have to stop for a bit, you can save what you're already written. Click SAVE at the bottom of the message window, and you will be give the option to save the incomplete message as a draft - to be finished and sent at a later time.

RULES, FOLDERS and SETTINGS: I wouldn't mess with the top part of this...especially since I don't understand the rules and folders bit. The part that you can change is the last section of this screen; the FOLDER OPTIONS. This is where you can change the way messages are delivered to you if your mailbox is full. It is currently set board-wide to hold back new messages in the other person's outbox until you make room for a new message in your inbox by deleting an old message.

You can change that option to behave like the old board, where the first (or oldest) messages will drop out of your inbox when you receive more than 5 messages...whether you've read the message or not.

FRONT PAGE: Shows any important announcements and your post overview.
MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS: A list of forums and topics you are subscribed to. You will be notified of new posts in either. To unsubscribe mark the forum or topic and then press the Unwatch marked button.
MANAGE BOOKMARKS: You can bookmark topics for future reference.
MANAGE DRAFTS: You can write posts and save them for future posting, or if you're called away in the middle of a post, you can save the incomplete post to finish later. This section is where those incomplete posts are saved for you to view or edit.
MANAGE ATTACHMENTS: Not applicable on the Zone.
