After posting, I had to go and see if I could find the exact quote about Hawking. I confused the circumstances a bit. Johnny was actually talking about Marlon Brando being important, so I want to clarify it. For the curious, here is the quote from IMDB:

Marlon Brando is maybe the greatest actor of the last two centuries. But his mind is much more important than the acting thing. The way that he looks at things, doesn't judge things, the way that he assesses things. He's as important as, uh... who's important today? Jesus, not many people... Stephen Hawking!

Wow, I am certainly glad you couldn't resist jumping in on this question even if you have not finished the book. I think your opinion of Johnny is right on and I love the quote about Steven Hawking.

Thanks for finding the exact quote for us, RamblinRebel.

Welcome RamblinRebel! :welcome: When I read your post I had a faint memory of Johnny mentioning Stephen Hawking. Thanks for finding the exact quote. I hope you have your copy of Loser's Town and plan to join us for the discussion! You too audamay!

Thanks everyone! And welcome to the Zone audamay! :lilyrose: :lilyrose: It really is a wonderful place.

Haven't yet aquired a copy of Loser's Town - the library still has it on order, so it's probably time to break down and buy it from Amazon. But right now, its back to more :reader: of Parallel Worlds!

When I heard that Johnny was reading Parallel Worlds it immediately brought to mind this comment from J.P. Donleavy about when he met him in NYC in 2005:
‘‘It’s come time now that The Ginger Man can be tackled,” he says simply. The planned film will star Johnny Depp, and the two men met recently in New York. ‘‘Mr Depp is fascinating, amusing and highly intelligent company.

“We weren’t talking very long before we were on to molecules and oxygen and other complicated scientific matters,” says Donleavy.

Thanks for that one, FAN. I’m glad that others remember these choice little tidbits better than I. Seems the Mad Hatter has been interested in the matters of matter all along.

I tried to buy a copy of "Losers Town" from Amazon but they would not post to the UK - so will have to wait a little longer till it is available here. :banghead:

I have however managed to obtain the book "Shantaram" which I believe Johnny has purchased the copywrite for. It is a very informative book and a great read and I for one cannot wait until he decides to film this one - makes you see India in a completely different vein. :-O

audamay, I'm not sure what the release date for Loser's Town is in the UK but we do know that Daniel is headed your way for some appearances so hopefully the book will be showing up on your side of the pond very soon.

Shantaram is an excellent read! We discussed on ONBC and you can access the tidbits and the discussion in the ONBC Archives forum. I hope you enjoy the book, it really is a good read!

Thanks for that DeppintheheartofTexas. I will most certainly have a look at the Archives about Shantaram and - yes- I did enjoy it. Look forward to hearing more about Losers Town on this side of the "pond". :hope:

audamay --

Loser's Town is already available in the UK; it's out in paperback. You can get it on the Amazon UK site here:
