Gangemi Q&A #10

Unread postby Liz » Wed Mar 15, 2006 10:20 am

Can you tell us something about the background of Dr. Crandon? We know he was a respected physician. Are you aware if he was ever investigated by the medical profession for anything unusual? What about the police?

Gangemi:
Afraid I don't have any knowledge of medical misdeeds on his part. I know he was a prominent gynecological surgeon in practice in Boston, with a strong interest in the occult. There was some speculation at the time that he got some sexual gratification from having his wife "admired" by other men (it later came out that the real Mina was carrying on affairs with at least two of the other committee men during the investigation). There was also some speculation that Dr. Crandon had created "pockets" in his wife's anatomy in which she could conceal items such as "ectoplasm." A detail I decided was a little too gruesome for my version of the story.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.

See, I knew the guy was icky, made my skin crawl. He was a real creep in real life, even from the little bit we know.

The "pockets" thing....yuk. But similar to what a fair number of smugglers do to this day, and I'm thinking of Shantaram here.

This was mentioned in one of Liz's tidbits, sort of... It would certainly point to the fact that she was a fraud if she was allowing herself to be surgically altered. :yikes:

I thought of smugglers too, Endora. The lengths some people will go to!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -
Wow! What a ride!
