Joanne Harris Q&A #6

Unread postby DeppInTheHeartOfTexas » Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:45 pm

It was very gracious of you to embrace the very different version of your book portrayed in the movie. I read that you were thrilled with having Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench in the movie and wondered what you thought of Johnny Depp's performance.

I was really happy with Johnny Depp’s performance. Once I had got past the fact that he doesn’t have red hair, I thought he did some very intelligent things with his interpretation of the character; he managed to make Roux just prickly enough to suggest a hint of roguishness and complication, whilst giving him a great deal of charm. I know that everyone enjoyed working with him because he is such an undemanding and modest character on set and I think the touches he introduced to his character, (the Irish accent rather than the French one, the guitar and the little light motif of being the only person whose tastes Vianne can’t guess) were all very nicely handled.

Wow! What a ride!

That was nice to read, wasn't it? I'll go with Johnny's idea on hair though after seeing the deleted scene! :yikes:
