Bryan Burrough Q&A #18

Unread postby Liz » Thu Apr 03, 2008 11:54 am

ONBC: If you could whisper in Johnny Depp’s ear and give him one bit of advice about portraying Dillinger, what would it be?

Bryan Burrough: Go with your gut. Dillinger always did.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.

Oh he will! When hasn't he? (If in doubt, please refer to POTC  )
I'm sure he'll do a terrific job.
Yes, I have tricks in my pocket, I have things up my sleeve. But I am the opposite of a stage magician. He gives you illusion that has the appearance of truth. I give you truth in the pleasant disguise of illusion. - Tom Wingfield, Glass Menagerie

How about adding to BB's advice but suround yourself with reliable friends, something our JD seems better at than the JD he is set to play.

Well, I know this is something that I wouldn't have to whisper to Johnny but "try to feel like you are walking a mile in his shoes". I think the fact that Johnny is still reading about Dillinger is one the best things he can do to stay invested in his life.

Agreed, gemini....Johnny does whatever it takes to envelope himself in the character.... a huge part of what makes him such a profound actor.
