"Life is too important to be taken seriously", right, Veronica?
Your thoughts remind me of what that amazing character, Khaderbhai, says in Shantaram about the universe 'moving from the simple to the complex', only in reverse! If we let the complexities (the nonsense) distract us from the simplicity of just being, we're doomed.
Onward! Forward!

I think he chose Happy Days because his goal was to study death and that seemed like a logical place to be. I do think this passage is closely connected to the author's Bhuddism. Whether it is meant to be that way for Antoine or not is unclear. I think if we could set aside a bit of time to meditate every day it would be wonderful! Unfortunately we seem to let real life get in the way more than we would like.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -
Wow! What a ride!

"sigh" Shantaram! Makes me want to read the whole book again.
Everything is always okay in the end,
if it's not, then it's not the end.

Today is a gift....Have Fun!

I have tried to live my life that way, and it works for me.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.
