R rating for Sweeney Todd?

Unread postby gilly » Thu Oct 26, 2006 7:55 pm

Emma has posted an interesting comment from Tim about Johnny simging and how excited he is with the project http://www.johnnydepp-zone.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=30166..Do you think he's joking or he means it..or is he just saying that this is not going to be a light and fluffy musical.?.
Life is beautiful.

I have faith in you.

Are you asking about the possiblility of the 'R' rating? or If Tim is excited?

Sure I think he's excited.
An "R" rating? - Not so sure about that. I guess if you have cut throats and blood, and real people doing the acting, it needs to be R. Even Sleepy Hollow is an R rating.

I can't see NO slit throats, and NO blood in this movie.

The Sound of Music with lots of blood? I certainly don't see how it could be rated G!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -
Wow! What a ride!

"No. I go over to his house and we sing show tunes every night. It's a ritual with us," he laughed. "Johnny is great. ... I'm always looking for some new kind of challenge."

The part about singing show tunes really cracked me up....
I think Tim and Johnny are always excited to work together, how can they not be?
As for the R rating it would have to be an R....it's about murder....
It's going to be interesting to follow the filming of this one and I am excited myself to hear Johnny sing.... :cloud9: His speaking voice drives me insane, I can only imagine was his singing voice will do.... :banghead:

I think that is exactly what he's saying Gilly. The joke about Sound of Music with blood and it's not Milli Vanilli tell me he's wanting it to be a little dark and a little off center.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.

I hope it is at least R rating. Anything less then it is a watered down Sweeney Todd and that won't do.
It's not a nice story a watered down version is a cop out. Why bother.

I can't see how they could give this a less-than-R rating. It's a grim story, so it should be portrayed as one.
