Thanks for those scans, Veronica. What a fascinating subject, restoring old movies! They have to be detectives, chemists, artists and even magicians to get the end results of a complete movie.
It’s sad how it’s only been in the last few years that the value of these old movies as entertainment and history has been recognized, and it’s too late for so many of them.
I watched a show once on TV that showed how they restored “My Fair Lady”, and all the work that went with it - and they had many different sources and prints to work from. Imagine there only being one or two incomplete and deteriorated copies and getting it all put together. Wow!
The copy of “The Cook” and Other Treasures (Arbuckle and Keaton) that I ordered on Friday came in today, so I have some "research" to watch...
DITHOT - the setting of “The Cook” is …..The Bull Pup Café……guess who’s the star in this short?

Oh, I adore Luke! He steals the show everytime he's on screen.
Buster Keaton borrowed Luke once in awhile for his own 2-reelers. The Scarecrow is hysterical - Luke chases Keaton all through the film, including around and around the top wall of an un-roofed building. That dog was a heck of lot more coordinated than I could ever be.

It was amazing how they restored those old films. I got this on Amazon & it was kind of expensive but now that I have read all this I am glad I made the purchase. I get to see Roscoes films but I think they deserve the sale to put that much time & energy into something. Its not like they will get rich off this dvd. that is true passion for this man & his work. I admire anyone for having that about anything. If it had been 100 years since Johnnys work by God I would be doing the same thing. lolol

Thanks for posting that, V. I have been interested in buying some of Arbuckl'es work, as I'm not sure I've ever seen any of it, and that looks like a really good selection to start with.

I remember watching some of the old Keystone Kops movies and of couse Chaplin and Keaton. I may need to look into that Arbuckle collection...
