"When I first moved back to Mumbai, the Library was the place young men and women, limited in their funds, went. Back then you went to your club, had you one, or to a hotel. Leopolds and Mondegar were populated by the sorts who now populate the pages of Shantaram. And of the hotels in south Mumbai, the Library was the cheapest place to drink. Beer back then cost the vast sum of fifteen bucks. Which stretched my already thin earnings a long way."

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.
