BP 2008 ~ How can our donation be used to help a child?

Unread postby Theresa » Tue May 06, 2008 1:43 pm

We will be making our donation to the Child Life fund at American Family Children’s Hospital.
The Child Life fund helps make the hospital stays of ill children and their parents and siblings more pleasant, bringing some unexpected comfort into a trying time. The Child Life fund provides toys and games for the children, and supports an on-site school for those who want to continue their studies while undergoing treatment. The Child Life fund gives birthday and end-of-treatment parties to mark milestone events. It also feeds the weary, worried parents so they don’t have to leave their sick child’s room to find nourishment. We chose Child Life from several charitable options, because it seems to echo what Johnny Depp gives us in his public appearances—that special moment of warmth and consideration that lifts our spirits and chases away the stress of daily life.

So how are some of the ways our donation can be used?

$25 will give a birthday party to a child who is in the hospital.

$50 will give a child an hour's worth of services from the Positive Image Center. When the medical staff sees that a child is depressed and in need of some pampering, they can receive a manicure, a pedicure, or a mini spa treatment. And when a child is going through treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, they can get a haircut or style, a new hat or scarf, or even a wig to help them feel better about themselves.

$50 will also buy supplies and books for one student in the hospital school.

$150 will give a big party to a child who has completed a long treatment program like chemo or radiation.

$300 will purchase one evening meal for 60 family members. The hospital provides a continental breakfast and soup and sandwiches for lunch for parents and family members who have a child in the hospital, and this donation will provide a hot dinner, delivered, for the parent who can't take leave their child even for the short time it takes to go to the hospital cafeteria.

Every little bit helps. :twohearts: It doesn't always take a lot of money to brighten a child's day.

Great post. It is so true that these hospitals make the most of every dollar. How great to know a small bit can provide a party for a youngster...

Thank you.
