Happy Birthday, Nelson Algren

Roger Ebert just Tweeted about this. If this was posted in the Tidbits and I missed it, I apologize... but thought I'd share. JD mention in the comments.

The edge … there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. HST

Thanks, Bluebird, for the link to the article and the nod to Nelson.

I don't think that article made it to the tidbits, but the video did. It was a good video.

:toastingpirates: to poor Nelson.

I hope he's having a better time in the afterlife than he did on earth.
You can't judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that matters is the ending. It's the most important part of the story.

Well said.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -
Wow! What a ride!

Thank you Bluebird. I've searched high and low for stuff about Algren on the internet for quite a while. Remember seeing this one. It's kind of painful, but honest. Great and largely ignored writer, maybe someday. Thanks again.

Thanks bluebird. I remember that video and thought it great at the time we were reading about Algren to actually hear him talking. Funny, before I had the impression that Studs and Algren were about the same age before I read the article. He was much younger than Algren. Puts a different perspective on them being such good friends.
