There is a photo floating around of Jack on a ship but I cannot confirm if it JD or a double.

The double should maybe get co-star billing. A lot of pretty bad rumors being posted. Praying it's all blown out of proportion. :tear:

There is absolutely nothing verified but several sites (unverified) are discussing the problems on set caused by the loss of their star. We will just have to wait it out and pray it's not as bad as it seems. He's been gone about 3 weeks and on a movie production that can cripple the budget. The trade papers haven't been writing anything, so hopefully that's a good sign. One problem with no one giving information on what is happening, people start printing wild stories.

P.S. Just looked at Jonathan Shaw's page. He has a few pics from his book signing event. Don't think Johnny was there. He mentioned on his site, several times that JD was NOT a confirmed guest. He also referred to some of the articles coming out of Australia about Johnny being unreliable on set and he was really ticked off. He pretty much inferred that it was all a bunch of crap. I know Mr. Shaw is a bit "out there," but as a close friend of Johnny, it was nice that he attempted to clear things up. It made me feel better! .

Filming stops on Pirates of the Caribbean as wait continues for Johnny Depp to return to the Gold Coast

Suzanne Simonot
Gold Coast Bulletin
March 31, 2015 12:00AM

FILMING on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has wrapped as the world waits for Johnny Depp to tell the film’s producers when he will be able to return to Australia.

The fate of the Gold Coast-filmed Pirates 5 blockbuster — the biggest film made in Australia — should be known in 10 days.

Cameras stopped rolling on the $250 million Jerry Bruckheimer co-production overnight after the last scenes able to be shot without Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, were completed.

At least 200 jobs were put on ice on Friday, with sources saying up to 450 cast and crew will have been stood down by the end of this week.

The film shoot was plunged into chaos after the billion-dollar franchise’s star returned to Los Angeles earlier this month after injuring his right hand during a wild weekend on the Coast.

Production sources said Depp had undergone surgery to have a pin inserted into his hand and was now undergoing “in-home rehab” for alcohol abuse — a claim yesterday denied by the film’s producers.

“I would like to be absolutely clear that Johnny Depp is not in home rehab for alcohol,” a spokesman for the production said.

“He is recuperating from his injury and surgery on his hand. The delay is not extended. It is dependent upon recuperation from surgery.”

Depp’s absence has caused filming to grind to a halt and there are now fears the whole project will be mothballed until he is fit to resume shooting.

Crew members still working this week are believed to be “battening down the hatches” and packing away expensive equipment at huge sets at Maudsland and Helensvale.

Affected workers include construction, catering, art department, security, costume and wardrobe staff.

“I had to give up a job somewhere else to go and work on the film,” one angry worker said yesterday.

“Everyone wants to know if Johnny Depp is going to pay us all to compensate us for the two weeks’ pay we’ve all lost.”

The film’s producers are due to report back to representatives from the Media Arts and Entertainment Alliance on April 10 to confirm if filming will resume on April 15.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is slated for worldwide release in July 2017.

Thanks, Emma. I wonder if Harrison Ford had to pay crew members when the Star Wars production was delayed, when he broke his leg?

The Hollywood Reporter

Johnny Depp's Hand Injury Prolongs Delays on 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5'

by Pip Bulbeck 3/30/2015 10:00pm PDT

Filming on Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is expected resume around April 15 on Australia’s Gold Coast after the production shut down for several weeks following star Johnny Depp’s return to the U.S. for hand surgery.

The delay was originally expected to cut into two weeks of filming after producers said there would be a “minimal impact” to the shoot. That break has now extended to at least four weeks after Depp needed a pin inserted in a finger, following an off set accident in early March.

Depp is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth installment of the billion dollar-plus franchise, alongside Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem.

A spokesman for the film told THR that resumption of filming depended on Depp’s recuperation. Filming continued on scenes without Depp after his departure on March 10.

But the delay means that under half the current crew of 400 working on the big-budget Disney feature, the largest ever to film in Australia, have been temporarily stood down, with all to resume when filming re-starts.

According to Fairfax Media reports, "about half of the film's estimated 400 crew were told last Thursday there would be no more work for at least two weeks".

Another 14 weeks of shooting remain on the film, with the release date still set at July 7, 2017.

I believe Harrison' injury was a result of a mistake by the production company; they were lucky he didn't sue them!

Regarding Johnny, if they did complain about that it seems a bit unfair, but there again, I always take stories in the media with a pinch of salt!

All hands back on deck this week as Pirates resumes filming on the Gold Coast next Monday

Kathleen Skene
Gold Coast Bulletin
April 14, 2015 7:37AM

SUPERSTAR Johnny Depp may be returning to the Gold Coast as early as next week, with crew of Pirates of the Caribbean V — Dead Men Tell No Tales told they would be needed back on deck on Thursday ready for filming on Monday.

More than 200 people were stood down at the end of last month after Depp injured his hand and then went into rehab to help deal with alcohol issues.

[Although stated as a matter of fact in this article, the rehab story was only speculation and gossip and was, in fact, denied by the film's spokesman in an earlier post on this thread. ~ Theresa]

Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance director of entertainment crew and sport, Mal Tulloch said the crew had received letters from the filmmakers saying it would be good to go “on or about” April 20.

The correspondence said employees were expected to resume work on Thursday for “two days preparation” and that travel arrangement would be made for those who needed to return to the city.

“It’s obviously great news, everybody wants to get back in and finish the job.” Mr Tulloch said.

“It’s quite a large production, employing a lot of people, not only in Queensland but across Australia.”

Mr Tulloch said the union did not expect resumption of filming to be pushed back any further.

“As they’ve formally put it through as a memo, to all crew, we don’t expect there will be any deviation from that.”

Depp left the country on March 11, his arm strapped in what looked like black electrical tape, after he broke his wrist.

Other stars of the film haven’t strayed far from the set, with Geoffrey Rush spotted at Narrowneck a week ago, as Javier Bardem and wife Penélope Cruz have been relaxing at Byron Bay.
