Re: Loser's Town Question #31 ~ Ready for More?

Gemini, I agree with you in finding some of the other characters more interesting than Spandau. But I enjoyed this book and will certainly read the next one.

Re: Loser's Town Question #28 ~ Symbolism

suec, I think this one is right up your alley too! Help! You know me so well  I do tend to think in symbolic terms, but as you know, I therefore tend to read into things that were never intended by the author. That may well prove to be the case again here, but this is what I can remember of th...

Re: Loser's Town Question #24 ~ Character Rants and Raves

Potts was my favourite too. I liked Spandau and Terry too but I found Potts a wee bit more interesting. Of the women, I can't say I really identified with any of them except Pookie :lol:I have fun changing my image too. But overall, I identified with some of the male charcters more than the female o...

Re: Loser's Town Question #19 ~ Spandau, Marlowe & Get Shorty

I don't have much to add here. But Marlowe is a drinker. And his personal ife isn't filled in in the same way. He's an ex-cop, fired for insubordination and never married because he doesn't like policemen's wives. It's pretty much as succinct as that.

Re: Loser's Town Question #22 ~ Potts

I liked Potts best of all.he leapt off the page and I liked his honourable protective instincts. What strikes me most is that his fundamental sense of decency is what brought him down and led him committing murder.

Re: Loser's Town Question #16 ~ Pressure

fansmon that detail about the time spent on marking writing really is a shocker. Interesting article too. Liz, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. It has been another week (but at last I am winning the battle now). The problems did vary from school to school, but in some cases, students had b...

Re: Loser's Town Question #16 ~ Pressure

Thanks Liz. It's something beyond their control, really, though they have handled me really badly. I have made sure they know this  I still might leave, though. But it comes to something when I start spelling coming with an 'e' in it. I'm definitely going to blame stress for that one. ...

Re: Loser's Town Question #18 ~ Stand-up Comics & Myster Writers

Well, there was certainly an instance of that in the UK last year, (Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand), that cooked up quite a controversy and opened up a debate about what is fair game and tasteful in humour and whether or not those boundaries should apply. I think comics can tell the truth because t...

Re: Loser's Town Question #13 ~ Fame

Fame is my idea of hell, I think. Way high a price to pay. I would loathe the lack of privacy, the intrusion into personal space and what I would see as the feeling of being "owned" or turned into a product. As it is now, when someone tries to take a photo of me at work, my reaction is unp...

Re: Loser's Town Question #16 ~ Pressure

I agree with all of you that there is a certain amount of stress in every job, and that some people (like myself) put more pressure on themselves than others. And Johnny seems to be one who seems to handle the pressure very well. The jobs that I think equate to the type of stress that Bobby...

Re: Loser's Town Question #4 ~ Spandau

Frankly, I wish I was more familiar with mystery writings, noir and the like. I am curious if Spandau bears any resemblance to say, Philip Marlowe. What physical image did anyone have? Sort of a taller Daniel, bit beefy, slightly handsome in a rugged way? I found the character comfortable and likea...

I also liked Terry a lot. I tried hard to focus on tuning out the Irish stereotype though, even though Terry himself played up to it.
BTW I don't know how to use the spoiler mechanism. can someone explain lpease?

Re: Loser's Town Question #8 ~ The Women of Loser's Town

Thanks Liz and deppaura! The loser mentality goes against my fondness for happy endings. I had hope for Dee but seeing what happened with my" favorite character" told me not to hope for the best. gemini , I'm a noir fan, so I'm quite happy with unhappy endings... but I see what you're sayi...
