As rainbowsoul said, this was a very valatile and complicated period in history. I'm sure I will be rereading this tidbit a few more times before ...

There are two places that I love to "pause and observe the world" from one isthe boardwalk in any shore town that has one. To be able to breathe the salt air and watch the ever changing ocean is wonderful, peaceful and calming,(and you see quite a cross section of the population), the othe...

Interesting thoughts all. His reality seems to be waiting for death. Linda Lee, I agree that is a part of his reality. His life seems to be one ijn which his goal (if you could actually call it that is to learn as much as he can about human nature and the nature of being human (if you understand my...

Re: Happy Days Question #4 - Reality

I agree with Veronica, it seems he does not want to deal with anything to do with life and living, or anything that is real or might bring him into reality. It also seems he doesn't want to be remembered after death. He is determined not to be deeply involved with anything or anyone. His reality see...

I was wondering about this as I read the book. I'm not sure why it was chosen, I agree with Betty Sue, Johnny will probably give us a greater understanding of Antoine. I am sure that somehow he will make Antoine more human for me.

Very interesting discussion. I first thought of Antoine a cynical and fatalistic. He seems to com...

I'm impressed, nothing escapes your notice. Rereading this book will be a must before the discussion begins. You certainly make things interesting. Thank you for pointing out these references and for researching them. I have a feeling this could be a thought provoking discussion.

Thanks, Liz. Very interesting report on cemeteries. It is always interesting to wander thruough and read the various headstones. We live near a cemetery that claims to be the oldest continuously operating cemetery in the US. It is Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ. The original piece of land was ...
