No sympathy for the boy who grew up without parents then, eh? Hmmm... Bunch of :capnjack: ..... Surely, if Johnny was here, he would find sympathy for Samarin, no matter how selfish he is.... :cloud9: :goodvibes:

KY, You may have hit the nail on the head there. (I've been immersed in Pavlov's behavior lately. ) But I do agree, that each person seems to complement the other, making a whole, and your theory fits well. Time for a :morning: of :capnjack: to wake up and think about what I just read. It's ...

[color=darkred]Thanks, Depputante! I love these puzzles too...they look just like every other page to me. :biglaugh:  I know what you mean about it looking 'odd'. We've had numerous examples of visual perception difficulties in our class notes. Parts of different words...together...in differe...

See? I rest my case ~ I give Samarin no such noble goals! I think he viewed the revolution as an opportunity rather than as a commitment. The fact that he refers to going to Georgia to affect what 'they' (not 'we' but 'they') call revolution indicates to me that he didn't necessarily agree or align...

Samarin's calling is external, to destroy evil in society, or so it seems. Samarin ends up going to Balashov to develop and internal good/castration.

Balashov's calling is internal, to improve himself for God. Balashov ends up using goodness for extinguishing the external evils of society.

HI, I'm really tired and hacking cough today again. ..have only skimmed what's written here.. MODS: .but if Jewish isn't a demon, then what's it there for? There ought to be a reason... :-? (Maybe it's for another discussion question?) I'm not convinced that someone would write a Religion becoming a...

She acted upon vengence and that became her focus, or her lens as it were ~ the way she looked at the world as through a camera...yes? If that's the case, then she was manipulating reality (or truth) just like her father did with his paintings! I like it, Parlez! Very cool connection there, ...

Their cultural roles are pulling them so far as even seeing a love union with a woman as a detraction from what they see as their greater roles as men in society. Oh course much more so, Balashov and Samarin. Mutz still has a role in union, but in his controlled form, it is unattractive to Anna's. ...

Can I come back and add : Fatalistic love ? does that make sense? Loving something because of the passion it contains, even though you know it's fatalistic to do so. It will never work out. But you love it anyways. That's what makes Johnny so appealing to me, too. It's impossible to be part of his l...

I have read through everyone's comments. Thank you. I am not sure if anyone will read this... but I'll add it anyway. Love of booze ...or drugs. There is the Shaman's drink, Matula's drugs and Balashov's religious exculsion etc. This is rather simplistic: There is a feeling called love. The feeling...

Anna is good at showing people what she sees. Anna's motivation for her love of Balashov is that he can do/see what she cannot. She loves showing people what she sees. This is her motivation, and in the end, she gets out of town by continuing on that path, with her camera. She could not cut off her...

When Balashov and Anna meet: P.95 'Do we cut girls' throats now because they have cameras?' .... The hussar looked down at Anna, and her face burned and then went cold, because she understoond that before that time she had never pleased anyone in the way that she pleased the young horseman, and yet ...
