I think Mrs L should be an equal of ST..maybe even more Machiavellian..I thought the poisoning-in-the-prison,was an interesting scenario too,gemini..that Mrs L cheats death, via Sweeney's hands and takes her own route..

I'm looking forward to seeing Johnny too  ..in a different role, with humanity, with a back-story,some romance, some redemption [ I don't know if that is possible] all set against an authentic view of late 18th century London, with tons of atmosphere ..I just hope that Tim doesn't go down The Lib...

R rating for Sweeney Todd?

Emma has posted an interesting comment from Tim about Johnny simging and how excited he is with the project http://www.johnnydepp-zone.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=30166 ..Do you think he's joking or he means it..or is he just saying that this is not going to be a light and fluffy musical.?.

Very interesting,GG. :capnjack: Someone was pulling the census taker's leg...Probably the census taker tracked him down at the pub..But there's some weird names in those census records...due to illiteracy on both sides :capnjack:

Before his death, ST is said to have felt some guilt.Haining sayse that says a gaoler in Newgate Prison claimed that ST had awoken from a nightmare and told him that he had been haunted all night by the faces of his victims 'a sailor,a quaker and a hundred others'..So maybe a smidgin of remorse :-O

I'm not surprised that some of the sources couldn't be located. One source he said, was really hard to get hold of and there aren't many copies extant..Convenient,one might say.. :capnjack: He still manages to quote some interesting statistics..for example, that ST's premises were crammed with clothes ...

Haining paints a horrific picture of Fleet street in the 18th century..a real den of iniquity. There was a concentration of the criminal fraternity there, firmly entrenched in their ''evil and unsanitary hideouts..Haining says that for many years there was a Waxworks at 189 Fleet Street, hard by ST'S s...

Haining says that Mrs L commited suicide in prison, after she had made a full confession, but before she was due to face Sweeney in court..It was suicide by poison, which was smuggled in to her..Is this what happens to her in the Sondheim musical?
