M Train Question #6 - Another type of Dream

This quote from pg. 77 struck me, as I’ve always been interested in dreams and what they mean:

“why do we dream about anything?”

Does anybody out there have any insight on dreams?

Re: M Train Question #5 - Dreams

nebraska wrote:The adage "Be careful what you wish for" Is probably true. Dreams are a nice place to relax and entertain ourselves, but reality is where we live, and it can be wonderful if we keep our eyes open for the little things that make life worthwhile.

I'm happier in my dream world. :-/

M Train Question #5 - Dreams

From pg. 43: It occurred to me, as the heavy curtains were opened and the morning light flooded the small dining area, that without a doubt we sometimes eclipse our own dreams with reality.

What is Patti saying here? Is it true? Would you rather it was the other way around?

Re: M Train Question #3 - M Train Tours

I liked them all, but I think I found Greenland the most interesting because I tend to forget about the place. But I enjoyed Rockaway (even though not on the list - should have been) because it's closer to home and I can relate to it more.....and a place in the US that I was not really aware of.

I think it was mystery shows. I didn't peg her as someone who would even watch TV. But I really liked finding out that she was into stuff I'm into.

Re: M Train Question #1 - A book about nothing?

I think you hit the nail on the head, there, T. I hadn't thought of FB. And the Daily Thread too. I have a group of friends (from the Zone) that I have been emailing with for almost a decade....multiple emails every day. They might not like to think we are talking about nothing, but what we talk ab...

Re: M Train Question #2: Parents and Other Grown-Ups

I was influenced a lot by my parents. Good and bad. I think I got my listening ability from my mom. She was the best listener of me. I also got my ability to love my children from her. I think my iconoclastic nature came from both of them. I got my fear of flying from my dad (he's never flown) and ...

M Train Question #3 - M Train Tours

We go on several tours in M Train – to Greenland, Northern Europe, French Guiana, Mexico, Japan and Morocco – each having its own sensibility, mood and atmosphere.

Which journey was your favorite and why?

Re: M Train Tidbit #5: Tuscan Bean Soup

The rosemary white bean soup looks delish. It looks similar (in the picture and by description) to what Patti might have eaten at Cafe Ino.

Finally catching up on Tidbits (I have a busy life). I just love the passages you've posted of his various writings. I think I'd be interested in reading 2666. Excellent tidbit!

Re: M Train Question #1 - A book about nothing?

When I first read how she described M Train , I immediately thought of Seinfeld.....known as "a show about nothing." It was and it wasn't. The show took what was ordinary, everyday or mundane and made it funny and entertaining. I think that Patti's book did a little bit of that. She let u...

Wow, nebraska! In the infamous words of Hunter S. Thompson, "buy the ticket, take the ride!" And you sure did. Way to start us off. :ok:
