The Mountain Shadow Question #16--Fate

I believe in fate. Fate has shown itself to me throughout my life. Played a major part in my life. I always see it after the aha moment - the moment that I realize why things happened the way they did.

The Mountain Shadow Question #15--Lisa and Lin

No one seems to want to talk about Karla. I thought that would be the big discussion. So, if not Karla, let's talk about about Lin and Lisa...... From pg 164: “Sometimes the sight of what you lost, reflected in another love, is too much: too much of what was, and isn’t any more. Family, home: littl...

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #12--Self-knowledge

Glad you joined us Marija. I think that there are plenty of people who are just tourists. But I don't think they are all that self-aware. I think a lot of them are in denial. Then there are people who are plenty self-aware but don't do anything to change. That would be me. I'm on the extreme end of...

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #11--Conversation between Lin and Lisa

It's a very complicated question....very philosophical. I'll zero on this quote "It’s what you try to be that counts." I've failed a few times at doing the "right" thing, and I've made the wrong choice. And I've been criticized for it. And I've hurt people because of it. And wit...

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #10--Transformation

I just spend some time in the archives yesterday, to read Shantaram titbits and questions. I can't remember anything! My memory is really bad. Offcourse it left me with this sad feeling, about how many members were participating back then. Good questions this time btw, compliments also for Nebraska...

Re: The Mountain Shadow - Question #6--Many characters and many different tales

Wow! Kudos to you, Snoopy, for reading the books back to back. That would be quite a feat. Your point about the dramatic turn in Afghanistan is telling. I remember thinking that I would have been totally fine with the Afghanistan section was left out of the book. I LOVED everything else about the f...

The Mountain Shadow Question #11--Conversation between Lin and Lisa

From pg 138: Conversation between Lin and Lisa: “’It doesn’t matter what you did, or what you were. It doesn’t even matter what you are. It’s what you try to be that counts. I smiled. ‘It’s not that easy. We’re all what we were.’ ‘No we’re not. We’re what we want ourselves to be. Don’t you get that...

I try to think of gratitude. But I'm not good at it. I've gotten better over the years, though.

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #8--Expectations of a spouse

Yeah, I could change my DH when it seemed like he was going that direction. Never really happened. But I was young and naive and in love with being in love. I was also insecure and ready to jump into the first relationship (it was actually the 2nd relationship). The goal was marriage as opposed to ...

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #7--"...an optimist ruined by love.” How is that dangerous?

I agree with all that's been said. And I would add that I've known Pollyanas who were ruined by love. I think there are too many people out there that expect too much from love. Love is not perfect. And optimists might get too disappointed if love doesn't go the way they want. Whereas those who are...

Re: The Mountain Shadow - Question #6--Many characters and many different tales

I'm with you, Nebraska. Way too long.

That said, the many characters in Shantaram didn't put me off. But the ones in The Mountain Shadow did. I think it may be because the better characters were covered later in the book.

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #5--Do you believe our hearts never lie?

I'm on the fence about this one. I do believe in instinct and trusting it. But I fall for whatever my heart wants maybe more than I should. I think my mind needs to step in more often. In the end I don't know if the heart gives us the truth. I think it might tell us what we want to hear.....like ro...

Re: The Mountain Shadow Question #4--Memories

One of the symptomes of CRPS is problems with memory, short ánd long term. I notice that daily, though it's not so bad it's making function in daily life more difficult. But it's annoying. I remember bad over sweet, dark over light. Some sweet memories I can treasure, and I can be happy I have thos...
