Re: A.C. Crispin wins award for Price of Freedom

Thank you all so much for the congratulatory words! I am thrilled, and surprised. It's not often a tie-in book (work for hire) gets any recognition. But I worked every bit as hard on that book, as I did many of my original novels!

Thank you again!

Re: Q & A with A. C. Crispin #9

TPOF was completed before there was a script for OST, so the Jack-Teague relationship I worked off of was based on their relationship as shown in AWE. Strained, in other words. I was told by Disney that Teague is indeed Jack's dad, but that they weren't stating this specifically, so I couldn't actua...

Re: Q&A with A.C. Crispin - #11

I actually submitted plot outlines for two other books, while Disney was trying to decide what time period they wanted for the novel. I could write them. Both would occur after the events in TPOF. However, this is Disney Editions decision to make, not mine. I know they must be watching the e-book an...

Re: TPOF of Freedom Question #25 ~ Overall Impressions

Thanks so much for all the kind words. I am so thrilled by how thoroughly you all read the book and didn't miss a trick! :thankyou: I got back from Dragon*Con just a couple of days ago, and promptly came down with a cold. But I'm getting better, so I hope I'll be able to answer the Q&A within a ...

Re: TPOF Question #26 - Final Question

Regarding the Pharaoh who believed in the "One God"...that was Akhenaton. "Aton" was the Sun God, and Ahkenaton (who was the father of Tutankahmon) moved his entire capital city to Amarna, out in the desert, to worship his god better. Not surprisingly, the temple priests hated hi...

All I can say is...WOW!

I wasn't a member of The DeppZone then, but I will be next year when donation time comes around, and I'm going to earmark a bit for that purpose!

You folks rock!

Re: TPOF Question #16 ~ Robby

The character of Robby Greene was based on a real person. I rarely did this, but Disney told me I couldn't use Bootstrap Bill as a sidekick for Jack, and he needed one, so I created Robby, based on my memories of my friend Bob Greenburger's son, Robbie, who died at age 20 of leukemia. Robbie LOVED P...

I'd agree with you on that one, Jackslady! I've really enjoyed reading these comments, and following the various "threads." You folks really READ a book and get everything out of it! -Ann >>>> I think the advent of effective contraception was the single most liberating thing for women in h...

Re: TPOF Question #20 ~ Freedom

I confess I was haunted by the "pregnancy" problem, too. I wouldn't have been allowed to be factual about it (this is DISNEY, after all!) but some methods of birth control did exist in the early 18th century. Women used "sponges" as barrier contraception, and men did have condoms...

Re: TPOF Question #18 - Capturing Jack Sparrow

MY favorite "Jackism" was the line about "Indubitably, it is a flag of the noir nature." Page 56. I thought up that line myself, but it was the first line I wrote where I heard Johnny's voice saying it. :-) That was a big breakthrough for me! BTW, I'm home from the World Science ...

Re: TPOF Question #10 ~ Girl Talk

I made the two ladies have a good time together because I felt it would be just TOO predictable (and too satisfying for Jack's already inflated ego!) to have them get into a catfight over him. It was much more fun to keep him off-balance, wondering what the devil they'd been saying about him. This w...

Re: TPOF Question #9 - The Rescue

I had such fun writing the scene where Jack ate dinner with the plantation owner and his family, bragging about his exploits on the hunting field.

I actually giggled out loud a few times, I had so much fun.

Re: TPOF Question 7 ~ Christophe

Remember, Christophe didn't really abuse Esmeralda...he just was pushy around her. Jack was so jealous of him (until he learned that Esmeralda had seen through Christophe and knew he meant to seduce her) that he probably didn't trust his own reaction to Christophe's pushiness towards Esmeralda. Reme...

Re: TPOF Question 7 ~ Christophe

Christophe first started out as Jean-Baptiste, then, when another Disney Dept. pointed out there was a "Jean" in the "Young Jack Sparrow" books, I was told to change his name. I changed his name to Phillippe. Then, when TPOF was like 2/3 of the way done, my editor discovered that...

Re: TPOF Question #4 ~ Esmeralda

Yikes, I see I wrote "Esmeralda" when I meant "Angelica" above.

I've clarified the post, should be easier to understand.
