Devotion - Tidbit #9 - The Space to Write

Some writers do require a cleaned up environment. At least as they begin. Although I have to say I can't imagine HOW Ernest Hemingway was able to write his books on the narrow space surrounded by chaos. We all find what works for us.

Devotion - Tidbit #7 The Short Story

I was very much like you Snoopy. I came back to short stories through creative writing. The short form is a good way to polish writing, but I found I needed to explore the current landscape, not that the old stuff isn't good, but because there are so many incredible writers active in the field. I re...

Re: Johnny Interview with Entertainment Weekly for FB2

Another great, great interview. I am floored by this entire thing -- the current series of interviews. He speaks boldly but humbly, if that makes sense. He is secure and he answers from that vantage point. And that allows him to be expansive, to go beyond generality into the substance of his process...

Zurich Interview with Johnny--Collider.com

Yes, thank you for highlighting this wonderful article. Depp is really an extraordinary artist with a writer's ability to create full blown characters. It is not an easy task. And to take the risks he takes is further proof of his genius. Every single time we read a bad review of a Depp film we need...

British GQ interview

I think the fact that Johnny decided to air his grievances in such a pointed manner says something important about what he is facing. He wouldn't have done this unless doing it was essential, and particularly to the studios and their financial backers who fund his work. And that is indeed daunting. ...

Devotion - Tidbit #7 The Short Story

Me either! I took two creative writing classes in the past year and both of the instructors used online resources in addition to books. I really liked the opportunity to read more recent stories, and get a sense how the genre is changing.

Devotion ~ Tidbit #2 Road Trip!

Snoopydances, what I find amazing is how intertwined our thinking and writing on this book is!! Apollinaire and Jean Seberg -- incredible! And thank you for a wonderful introduction, a setting of the scene, for my piece on Cafe de Flore.

Devotion ~ Tidbit #1 Ristuules

The Body Memory film is absolutely harrowing. Simple twine shaped into human figures which are then torn apart in a freight car. I found myself almost brought to tears. I also found the accompanying description of the work's central premise -- that our body remembers, not only individual experiences...

Johnny Depp circling Ciro Guerra's 'Waiting For The Barbarians'

I am so thrilled that it appears Johnny will be in Waiting For The Barbarians. Coetzee is a superb writer and the role in question is very dark, and I can see Johnny creating a perfect villain. As some of you know I work over at The Zone as an ONBC book discussion manager. I am so hoping we will be...
