I tried to donate - not sure it worked though.

Thanks for doing this every year, Theresa and PtP.

Re: TPOF Tidbit #2 - Cataracts of the Nile

I love the tidbits whether or not I've read the book.
I had heard of the Cataracts of the Nile, but didn't know much about them.

Thanks, Liz!

Many thanks to those who donated to the Birthday Project overnight and early this morning. :thanks!: We are getting very close to $5,000 now. :applause2: I think it is already Johnny's birthday in Japan :japan: because of the way the international date line works . . . maybe an expert can...

I think it's a great idea, PtP. I can only do a little bit more, but I'm really hoping we get to $5,000!

Re: ONBC's Next Book Selection - Please Respond

Kate_with_a_K , it would make a great gift, though I will probably only lend my copy to my friends. My best guess is that it would work for kids age ten or so on up. The book alternates between telling the story in words and in beautiful black and white pencil illustrations. It is not a typical &qu...

Also sounds like a potential great birthday gift. What age levels do you think would like it, Buster?

I couldn't find it in the local bookstore at lunch time.

Johnny and Vanessa together in American Dream. Just wondering if I missed it or has anyone mentioned talk of Johnny and Vanessa doing the film American Dream about Simone de Beauvoir and her affair with Nelson Algren. Re: Alice Tidbit #28 ~ Plum Pudding

Thanks so much for this, DITHOT. It sounds very much like the plum pudding my grandmother made, especially the part about tying it up in a cloth, which I understand was quite difficult as it had to be tied very tightly. She always used raisins. Mr. Kate's grandmother made mince pies, and she used ra...

I was on vacation at the beginning of the year and am now shockingly behind on the tidbits.) Thanks, fansmom. I have ...

Re: Alice Tidbit #15 ~ The Ugly Duchess

What I found interesting was that the drawings had a caricature-like quality to them. I think that may reflect that she was considered an ugly woman morally, because of her marriage history.

Thanks, Liz. It's good to be back. I don't always have time to read the books, etc., but it's fun to read the tidbits and discussion.

Re: Johnny Question #2 - Favorite Passage

I really can't pick one passage either. I've read this before, but this time, the part that really stood out for me was: Plastered, postered, postured, patented, painted, plastic!!! So alliterative and almost poetic. I loved his description of Tim too. And, Liz, I did keep in mind how long ago this ...

Re: Johnny Question #3 ~ Collaborations

I also loved Sleepy Hollow. In fact, it's my favorite of Johnny's movies. I loved their "take" on the material from the first time I watched it, and really enjoyed Johnny's performance as Ichabod. I have not yet seen Sweeney Todd. I was pleasantly surprised by CATCF when I finally saw it ...
