Re: Our Next Book...

I ordered a copy from eBay a couple of days ago ($10.99 includes the shipping fee) and am hoping it will be here soon so I can start reading.

Re: ONBC’s Next Book – Discussion Begins January 5

I received the book in the mail last week and have begun reading. I'm about 4 chapters in and am enjoying it. I'm looking forward to the discussions. :)

I live just east of Oklahoma City a few miles from Tinker Air Force Base and have been to (and through) Tulsa quite a few times. I really enjoyed the photos! A friend of mine told me (when she saw me reading Public Enemies) that her grandparents were both in the FBI (her grandmother had a desk job a...

Hi, thatgirl! Glad you will be joining us. I've heard stories from my family too about the 30's. Amazing times to be sure. Tonight, Mom told me about how my grandparents would save up to buy ketchup for my aunt because she liked it so much (she's 14 yrs older than my mom, so this was before ...

Tonight I went out to Mom and Dad's for dinner and was talking with Dad about Public Enemies. He told me about a show on the History Channel that he's been wanting to see about that time/those events in history. When he turned on the tv after dinner, guess what was on? Yes! That very show. It's call...

I'm about 4/5 through the book. After a few chapters, I stopped getting the people mixed up and started really enjoying it. I keep thinking about how different the lives of these guys/gals were than the lives my grandparents led (they were married in 1933 - Grandad was 23 and Meema was 19) and the s...

thatgirl :thanks!: so much for sharing these links. I have only had time to read one of them so far, the first one from 1957; and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It brought back memories of the book for me and memories of our discussion here. Plus, I really liked the way the Gilbert Millstein thought back...

"On The Road" article in Sunday's NYT

I just saw an article about "On The Road," by Jack Kerouac in the 8-19-07 New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/19/books/review/19weiland.html?_r=1&oref=slogin Here's a link to a slide show of foreign editions of "On The Road." http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/0...

About Gilbert's relationship with Bonnie, I think it's hard to watch someone you love ruin themselves. It would be hard for Gilbert to not resent her for giving up, for not trying, for practically abandoning the kids in her grief & need to bury (stuff down) her feelings with food to avoid feelin...

I think they want to heal from the pain & grief of their dad's death, but that they're not really able to completely deal with the grief with all that they're faced with. With Arnie's short life expectancy and their mom's depression and health-weight problems, it seems that it's just too much fo...
