Re: Birthday Project 2012--Who and what is Project Pueblo?

What an excellent choice! I couldn't understand how there could be anything so horrendous as the Bennett Freeze  ......had to Google it. Found scenes that were so reminiscent of The Brave. Incredibly sad! So terrific that Sean Wycliffe took an interest, founded Project Pueblo......and now we ca...

Re: On Stranger Tides Question #26 ~ Wrapping Up

Well, my good intentions on this one sure never materialized....got a late start, then found out my library book could not be renewed as others were waiting for it so tried to read half a book in a day. Not with MY memory!! So happy you listed those quotes, nebraska, as the rich and clever lan...

Re: On Stranger Tides Question #1 ~ Would You?

Unfortunately, I'm just starting the book so this is the only question I can attempt to answer......and it's taken me this long to make a decision! :perplexed: I'm going to go with a little taste to get me through those tricky 80's and 90's; then I'll rely on heaven being the Ultimate Fountain of Yo...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #26 ~ FINAL QUESTION

Can't think of anything left undiscussed on this one so just want to thank you Mods for your usual excellent diligence in getting us informed and thinking!! :bouquet: I'm a little worried about learning too much about the movie if I read On Stranger Tides before seeing it. :perplexed: I was SO happy...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #25 ~ Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down?

Thumbs up! I found the twists, turns and shocks of the story pretty interesting, as it's not my usual fare either, and I'm not used to all that! :-O Daniel has a great way with dialogue and characterization. :hatsoff: He can be hilarious, and he can be subtly and gently sentimental, which I love. :h...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #24 ~ The Vial (Patsy Question Added)

Well, for a girl who professed no interest in men, Patsy certainly fell for Special! :-O And I don't remember him having any real affection for her; sometimes he could barely keep from hitting her. To me the 'relationship' was a matter of Special blatantly using Patsy. And she is a mystery to ...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #24 ~ The Vial

I had really liked what I had thought was the ending ("Virtue may have its own rewards, but the crooked have sexier dreams.") and was kinda curious about what was going to happen six months later. At first I was completely confused, and then I remembered....oh, yeah, the vial! :ohyes: Mild...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #22 ~ Casting

It's great fun picturing all these actors as these characters (since I couldn't even begin to cast!). Thanks! Can't think of Special as a skinny guy, though. The picture of Michael Clark Duncan is like what I had visualized. Remember, Daniel described him as: Large angry black man swearing and holdi...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #23 ~ Perec and Anna

I was surprised, too. Who would think he had a sort of altruistic motive??? If only they had known, it could have saved a lot of grief!! :-O
Interesting complication, fireflydances. Hmmmnn..... :perplexed:

Re: Babylon Nights Question #21 ~ Why scorpions?

After noticing the scorpion on the book jacket, I was wondering when it would come up in the story. Then Perec killed a scorpion while he was in his creepy hiding place. At first he actually felt bad about it, then it dawned on him that it was just like him, and he got his fine idea of how to use th...

Yeah, nebraska, that picture's kinda how I pictured Perec, too. My first thought with this question was that Daniel picked the name Perec because of that picture! :freaked:

Your analysis of Anna, nebraska, reminds me that her sister said Anna creates her own world, then sucks everyone into it.

Re: Babylon Nights Question #19 ~ Anna

Anna's another with a childhood horror imprinted on her who's trying to handle the ups and downs of her life and having a struggle. She was presented at first as a pretty neurotic self-centered drama queen, but she showed some good qualities as the story went on. I like that she was more eage...

Re: Babylon Nights Question #18 ~ Names

Okay, one last desperate stab: Thierry Daniel Henry is a French soccer player, and Thierry was the Cannes driver (and bodyguard, I think). To me, Thierry is an unusual name, but if it's a popular name in France it makes this pretty meaningless. :dunce:

Eva Schmidt was a festival rep, and there's an Eva Schmidt who's a French artist, has some pretty sensual stuff. :flirt:
