Hi, cait! I'm glad you caught us tonight, it's good to be back. It sounds like you are getting out and about quite a bit this summer and having fun as well. I would love to see DMC with a group. Bix and I went last Friday and although we sat next to some folks who claimed to be Johnny...

I've missed reading the Monday Night thread and I forgot it was starting up again tonight. :dunce: My summer has been all over the place so far. I've worked at a music camp and I may have another one in a couple of weeks, I've been volunteering at the hospital, going down to my cottage (that's where...

Welcome back, Liz! :welcome: I liked Roux from the movie better. I expected to like him in the book because I had seen the movie first and it was Johnny who played him! I found myself making excuses for the Roux in the book because I wanted to like him, but he wasn't the same. I found him to be more...

Good answer, luvdepp!

I think Vianne used the wind as an excuse to say that is was time to leave. She didn't want to be tied down and she thought that she had to continue helping people. She let the wind control her life until she put herself and her daughter first.

Don't know how much more I can add. I agree with all of the answers so far. I think Pantoufle was important to Anouk because he was always there for her and he wouldn't leave until she was ready for him to go. When she doesn't need Pantoufle anymore, I think part of it represents Anouk beginning to ...

Josephine didn't think much of herself. I think she married Paul because she didn't think she could do any better. Paul took advantage of her low self esteem and pushed her more into isolation. Paul was controlling and liked pushing people around. He found that he could do that with Josephine. Paul ...

Topic: Chocolat Question #4 ~ Vianne and Reynaud

Reynaud doesn't want to be read at all and he keeps himself completely closed off. He is so against what Vianne is doing, that his anger and refusal to be open makes him blank on the inside and out. Even though the others in the town are hesitant and a little scared, they remain curious and tempted ...

Has anyone read Austen's Emma? The character of Emma, who knows what everyone needs but can't see what she herself needs, is similar to me. I've read Emma. She is kind of like Vianne. She tries to make others happy, but doesn't know how to do it for herself. Emma thought she was making others happy...

Topic: Chocolat Question #1 ~ Theme and Message

I didn't add this in my post earlier, but I think commitment is another significant theme in the book. Vianne didn't want to be tied down and once she felt she'd done all she could, she would pack up and leave. I think this would tie in to the "facing your fears" theme that was mentioned earlier.

I agree with all of the themes that have been mentioned so far. I also think it's about connecting people and bringing everyone together. Vianne has a way of doing this through her chocolate. The chocolate is her way of understanding people and their personality.

I think I'd be nervous to use a really expensive pen. I'd be afraid of using it up too quickly or even losing it!

I tend to use the computer more if I'm writing papers. I find it easier to edit that way. I write all of my notes in classes by hand though. I don't know if I've been found by a pen, but I have a favorite one. It's chubby, clicky, with a soft grip. I got last summer in California from the conference...
