Excellent, and fascinating, DitHot.

I, too, finally found out what an 'incabulum' was/is. Thanks and keep up those tid-lectures!

Morning, Liz,

I'm glad to see that ONBC is reading The Club Dumas. I have really enjoyed the whole Mustateers thing and I think I'll join you folks with The Club Dumas." The background summary was very helpful.

Still, after all these years, this is fascinating and mysterious. Kind of reminds me of the Jon Benet Ramsey business, with all the publicity and questionable police procedures. On another note, during WW2, Lindburgh expressed some sympathies with the Nazi cause and that kind of turned people off of...

Great tidbit, DitHoT. My Mom grew up during the Depression and grew up in Chicago! She had some real stories to tell about the gangster days, too. Her family barely survived because they had a small market and was able to make a few ends meet; but I remember her telling me about how bad things were ...

Wonderful, tidbit, DitHoT. I remember my parents talking about a lot of the things you included. The post office where I live still has these murals up near the ceiling that were done during the federal work projects for artists. Some were painted over in the 1950s during the Communist scare because...

Fascinating tidbit, DitHoT. I love the historical background. I had heard that the Temple Bar was somehow related to lawyers; but until I read an account of the history of the Knights Templar, I didn't understand the connection. And thanks to your tidbit, I now know that Augusta used to be the name ...

I like this thread, gives me all kinds of ideas for good reads. One of the branch libraries in town had a display of banned books, encouraging people to go read them. What a good idea! My reading suggestion is "A People's History of the US," by Howard Zinn. Johnny had mentioned that he rea...

The seal of the confessional wherein the priest can't divulge what he's heard has been the major 'selling point' of confession over the centuries. There was a movie made back in the '40s, I think, with Gregory Peck (?) and the plot revolved around that. He solved the mystery without breaking the seal.

Very interesting, Parlez. Thanks for doing the research :press: and reporting back. I enjoyed reading your post. Weird thing, after I read about the Ludlow mine strike, I ran into two other mentions of it within the following couple days. And this was something I had never heard of before. :hypnotic:
