Re: ONBC Poll - You Choose Our Next Book

I vote for "Alice"!!!

By the way both books "Wonderland" & "Through the Looking Glass" can be downloaded free from Project Guttenberg.

I think I'll start them today!!

I'm still working on The Dark Volume - this time, I'll be prepared for that as well!!

Re: Share Your Book Recommendations

One of the most stunning books I have ever read (and believe me, I'm a reader!!) is by Octavia Butler and is called, "Kindred". It's "sci-fi" - but not really - it's time travel (but that is never explained) - so it's not that either - or at least that's not what it is really abo...

Re: Gordon Dahlquist Q&A #16

Me, either... steampunk, eh? Here's what Wikipedia has to say: "Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and ...

Re: Glass Books Question #25 ~ Glass Books

Oh Yeah! One thing I've learned is that there are not too many books that I don't want to at least look at. I may not read them all, but I usually give it a try. Some of the most least likely have given me the most enjoyment. The glass books seem to be erotic and compelling, as even Miss Temple who...

Re: Glass Books Question #22 ~ All Things Johnny

Feeling a bit silly - can Johnny play all THREE main characters? I did immediately see him as Chang, and then thought Svenson would be a great part for him - but I really can see him flouncing around as Miss Temple as well. It would be an amazing feat!!

Sorry - but I could resist!!

Re: Glass Books Question #18 ~ Two Meanings?

I have to say unequivocally, "I hate allegories!" I hated reading them in college, I hated "The Lion, The Witch & the Wardrobe" for imposing it's allegorical themes on the story - and while I do watch what people are doing, I like enjoying a book for the story and where it ta...

Re: G. DAHLQUIST Q&A with ONBC coming soon

As a bit of a writer myself, I think he's a fantastic writer & I'm envious of his ability to say so much. I tend to be far too terse! I'm really looking forward to this & have to think of some of the basic questions I've had as I've gone along (thinking "If I could just ask him why...&q...

Re: Glass Books Question #16 ~ Searching For Bliss

[font_comic:3ls8os9j]Great answers so far. Good analogy to religious cults. I think that those who feel that there is no hope in their lives would be willing to forgo a blissful “process” that would make them feel good. Such individuals may feel that they have nothing to lose and they see no...

In the past purple was also associated with Royalty & insanity. I thought that was very telling for the Contessa.

Re: Glass Books Question #8 ~ The Women

I'm finally getting far enough into this book to feel as if I can say something worthwhile. I actually am enjoying the female characters. I like Miss Temple very much, and feel she is very realistic. I like that she is fearful & strong, anxious & sure, willful & willing. She seems to me ...

Re: AMF Question #27 ~ Accrochable vs. Inaccrochable

Okay - I'm going to jump in and say that this argument of accrochable vs. inaccrochable isn't an argument of today. You can use it in historical context - but since the Vietnam war, and the airing of such incredible live violence, censorship has taken a real back seat in modern life. I don't think t...

His name may not have been Sweeney Todd (more like Sawney Bean) but I guarantee there was some person who perpetraited crimes like those described. No way you can tell me serial killers are a product of modern times.

So maybe the question should have been..."Which of Johnny's characters would not be a match to play Sweeney?" :applause2: Good one!!! I can only think of one - and I'm not 100% sure of him... James Barrie?? Maybe Sam... other than that - those guys have some anger issues to work on!!

He would be a great release for Gilbert's frustrations (not that he has the least bent towards violence, but...)

1. A thought about books in general Books are my life. Since I've been able to read (age 3) - all I ever wanted to was to read and write - so to me books are everything. 2. A thought about ONBC What a lovely place to visit!! I don't always participate regularly in the discussions, but I love reading...
